It's great to see downtown Greensboro fleshing out. I expect it to become more of a destination in the region in the near future.

Looks like a big announcement tomorrow for Downtown Loft maybe ?
@ Roy Carroll

We will have a big announcement tomorrow via Twitter on our newest downtown hotel that will be located across from our Hyatt Place Hotel at the Carroll South of Ballpark site.

Downtown Greensboro Update. Aloft at Carroll South of the Ballpark will be an AC Hotel instead and the height has been increased to 12 stories! The hotel will be clustered with the 9 story Project Slugger tower and Carroll's future 20 story office tower which will be included in a later phase.

Wonder why Aloft was dropped and switched to AC ? Curious as to the reason, and why it would be more appropriate for that site. Seems odd.

Seems like he wanted more of a business brand hotel to compliment the Hyatt Place across the street. Aloft and AC are different models and business has been so good at the Hyatt Place, the AC Hotel will be an extension of that but more upscale. Honestly whether its AC or Aloft I'm happy. Both are in the same mid level upscale tier. The height has also been increased and will be taller than Project Slugger. With the Westin, that makes two hotels being built downtown at 12 stories.

Carroll also mentions construction on the hotel phase of Carroll South of the Ballpark will begin before the end of the year. Because of the rebranding and height change, the design will likely change as well. Construction on the city deck behind the hotel site is currently under construction so it will be completed in time for the AC hotel opening. Very exciting!

I think AC is probably a better fit in that spot. ALoft would probably fit better on the other side of downtown. Perhaps with an entertainment destination? N&R site maybe in conjunction with a not yet proposed entertainment venue?
