Maybe Winston-Salem should try to get Carroll to build development around thier ballpark if the current plan from that Atlanta developer falls through. They would certainly get a better quality development. Out of the area developers are only concerned about how much they can make out of a deal and tend to cut corners on a lot of things. That was apparent when the deal was scaled back in scope and size with lackluster design and a suburban layout. It may be a good thing if it falls through because I think we could easily see a bigger and better development over there.

High Point is getting a baseball team in the Atlantic League*

http://www.greensboro.com/sports/pro...f03ed2849.html

It's happening the funds have been raised and then some. Winston-Salem based BB&T will have naming rights to the stadium making it the third ballpark in North Carolina with the BB&T name. The BB&T name is on Winston-Salem's and Charlotte's downtown ballparks. Both stadiums are called BB&T Ballpark. A children's museum and park will be a part of the project and as I posted above, Roy Carroll will build a hotel overlooking the ballpark. Carroll will be working through the project's master developer. Residential is also a part of the plan.

"Blue Ridge Companies, a construction and property management firm based in High Point, will build at least 200 new apartment units near the project site.

The Carroll Companies, a Greensboro developer, wants to build a hotel near the project site."

I was getting ready to post this. It's exciting that we have a team already ready to move here. Though I have to admit that I'm not sure how likely it is to have the stadium ready to go in 19-20 months. That is definitely very ambitious, but it looks like the momentum of the stadium is already leading to development downtown.

Commissioners plan public hearing, remain skeptical of High Point stadium plan | Local News | greensboro.com

Ugh. So it appears that there we have one guaranteed yes vote and two guaranteed no votes. That means we need four of the remaining swing votes to vote yes, which seems to be a bit dicey at best. I really wonder if the same cool reception would be given if this same proposal were taking place in Greensboro.

This ballpark seems to have a chance to be a catalyst for future development though. There is already some substantial development that appears to be ready to go should this project get the green light. IMO, it would be a very short-sighted move to vote no... but that seems to be the direction this is going. Very frustrating.

They need the county. its been said many times. And Quebian isn't "raising" $50 million, he's lining up investors to (supposedly) invest in development around the stadium. That doesn't replace the need for the county's money to pay back the loan the city is taking out.

High Point city council moving on with Stadium project without county support. The county commissioners put off a vote for 90 days but because if the tight deadline with securing the baseball team, basically supporters are saying we dont need the county's help and we are moving forward anyway.
