JCPenney owned Eckerd for a period in the 90's. JCP also owned some other drugstore chains like Thrift Drug and Treasury Drug. Some of them had JCP catalog counters for ordering and pickup. I remember as a child there was a Treasury in Greenwood as well as an Eckerd with a short order grill. Not sure if there were any other Treasury Drug stores in the upstate. Treasury always felt more upscale.
The old school drug stores would gift wrap purchases too for things like birthdays, baby showers and around the holidays. Customer Service was on point back then.
That's because back then the focus of most larger businesses was "How can I make this business last long term?". Now the focus is "How do I make as much money as possible right now, even if it kills the longevity?".
