The Chinese restaurant I miss the most and one of the first ones I remember going to in Greenville was the Aloha. Owned by the Shen's they had locations in Greenville, Easley and Spartanburg and closed their last location on Blackstock Rd in Spartanburg in 2007. I drove to Spartanburg just for that restaurant in the 90's after Greenville closed. Wow they had good food and the best and most fresh egg rolls I've ever eaten.
Dragon Den's website suggests going to Asian Pacific Market on Pleasantburg. I went there with family a couple years ago and it was awful. It gets rave reviews though. I have no idea why. Expensive, bland, and flat out terrible food.
First Chinese restaurant in Greenville as I recall the story going.
I'm reading the big writeup that Greenville News did on them back in 2000.. They were the first and only Chinese restaurant in Greenville until Dragon Den opened. so.. I don't believe they owned those.
Interesting. Always drove by that place as a kid when visiting. My grandparents lived in Buxton and my grandmother worked at Furman. We never ate there. Haha.
At the Aloha Easley location, I would rave about a dish and Jackson Shen would invite me into the kitchen to watch it being made! Gosh I miss that place.

The Spartanburg location- was it on blackstock rd? The old Hungry Bull location? It’s been a while….

Yes Blackstock and sold for a strip mall. Not familiar with the Hungry Bull. Based on the look of the building Aloha was in an old steakhouse. Maybe a former Quincy's or something like it. The little strip mall next to Wendy's replaced it.
Wow. I was there 4 weeks ago, and at the time I visited it was still fully stocked.
I was in there two weeks ago on July 20 and lots of stuff left and it was only 10% off. The sign on the door said only 10 days left. The final days of July it went to 80 and 90 for the remaining items according to an email I got. I'm thinking they may have packed up and sold a good bit to liquidator/buyout retail chains like Ollie's.
