Avoid I-385 coming out of downtown. Woof. The bozo at the SCDOT who approved this closure should be fired.
The closure isn’t supposed to start until 10PM so I don’t think that is it. Google maps shows a wreck on 385. Probably idiots driving too fast in a downpour. Combine that with no shoulders due to the construction and any wreck will tie things up.

Or caused by idiots driving too slow with their emergency flashers on.

I saw video of this, looked like it was completely flooded. A low section of the construction zone and concrete barriers looked like it caused all the water to run to one place and pool.
That's not surprising; they've added some things to the project and rain has slowed it down, so costs go up. They're really missing a golden opportunity to convert the Woodruff Rd. interchanges over I85 and I385 into SPUI's or diverging diamonds.

I can't rep you on this but completely agree - not converting those to SPUIs or DDIs during this process is a mistake.
I've actually been impressed with how well it's been going TBH. Would like to know when the main I-385 lanes will be open. Every time I look they seem closer and closer to having it paved.

At this point into the project wouldn't doing this cost millions of dollars more? Would it even be feasible? If it was feasible, why wouldn't the DOT have done it in the first place?

My assertion is the redesign of both Woodruff Road interchanges should have been done as a part of this project. Both will have to be redone at some point in the near future, which will once again disrupt traffic and doing them as separate projects will cost more than doing it all together at one time. The lack of vision by the DOT costs us more money and inconvenience in the longer term.

I'm not surprised at all - this is typical of SC - delay/divert/ignore/"kick the can down the road" - another example: I-85 east of Spartanburg (to the NC line) needed 6 lanes in the year 2000 - FINALLY, this massive project has started - but now it's much more costly
