Several state parks in western North Carolina have been closed to allow the state to deploy additional resources to assist in fighting fires at South Mountains and Chimney Rock state parks. In addition to those two parks, New River, Elk Knob, Mount Mitchell, Lake James and Gorges state parks and Mount Jefferson State Natural Area will be closed until the fire is contained and staff can return to their assigned parks. Due to an extremely high risk of wildfire, all state parks currently have banned campfires and open cooking fires. Only charcoal fires east of I-95. Propane and cooking stoves are permitted everywhere. Before visiting, check a park's web page on this site for local conditions.

Thought it was over, then BAM, its back, stronger than ever.
Same here. I thought that rain Sunday morning was going to knock things down. Guess not. I'm out in Five Forks and this definitely the worst its been so far.

Yep. The sky was crystal clear last night. The supermoon was awesome and bright. Definitely wasn't expecting to wake up to a dingy colored background.

The fires continue to burn. They didn't get any rain. This could go on for months according to one of the local channels I was watching until they get a good rain or snow.

Yes - I watched the weather radar yesterday morning and all rain bands "evaporated/disappeared" at the NC/SC state line - very disappointing.
One positive side effect from all that smoke are the brilliant sunsets. I have never seen such Orange setting suns here in Greenville
