I will have to agree with Lonerstar9 on this one. Bi-Lo 5704 on Verdae is not as trashy or bad as most people say it is. It is one of the newer remodeled store. It is actually one of the busier Bi-lo store in the metro area. If it is in the process of closing, it would have to be a lease issue with the shopping plaza. Bi-lo in particular are more cheaper then other grocery stores. But what it truly lack is customer service. Time have changed, and it looks like they haven't caught on to the change that customer really wants now that other competition are in the area. Anyone knows when 5704 Bi-Lo would be closing?

Default BI-LO #5704, Verdae Village, 101 Verdae Boulevard Suite 1200, Greenville, South Carolina 29607-3823

BI-LO #5704 has neither remodeled nor updated since it opened in 2007. Its sales have been low for being the only supermarket in its trade area.

BI-LO's prices are far from cheap when compared with Aldi, Ingle's, Publix, and Walmart. The "Down Down" promotion is the second pricing campaign in a year.

BI-LO stores that have closed have been in January and February.

I agree with you Oliver on the prices. FOR ME AND MY FAMILY BiLo is cheaper than anywhere else, with the exception to maybe Aldis, but I find the items I would buy there are low quality, stems in the green beans and the like.

And here we go......

Yes, the store is starting show its age. Price wise, I don't think anyone can beat Aldi on price when compare to prices when they don't run the weekly sales. I just talked to one of the store management there at 5704 BI-Lo this afternoon, and he stated that the store will not close despite any rumors going on. Only some Bi-Lo with the Pharmacy dept. are closing its Pharmacy dept. I thought about this also because why would they go through with new shopping buggy if they are closing in the next few months? So we'll have to wait and see.

It is common practice for stores in the process of closing to deny they are closing. When service departments are closing, guest services are being discontinued, and store members are relocating to other stores, a store faces a grim and short future.

And unfortunately corporate does not always tell the local managers and staff that a store is closing until the day it happens and it is a shocking and sad surprise for everybody.

Asheville Mall could be replacing Sears with a mixed use addition: cinema, apartment building, restaurants, retail. Here's hoping Haywood Mall follows suit with something similar or grander before it falls behind our neighbors.

Has Sears announced plans to close the Asheville Mall location? Otherwise some of those plans may be premature. And they could consider the Sears space to add a Macy's, which has never had a store in Asheville. The nearest Macy's to Asheville is Haywood Mall in Greenville, which does attract shoppers from western NC.

And as for Haywood Mall, that Sears has been a strong performing location and is unlikely to close down anytime soon, unless there is a national shutdown, which has been speculated. That remains to be seen, although I could see the Westgate store in Spartanburg closing, as it appears to be a dying store with limited inventory and dated amenities.

But adding mixed use development to Haywood Mall would be a good plan if Sears or JCPenney were to close down, as a lifestyle center with offices, restaurants, apartments, or selective retail. But not sure a movie theater would be needed, although it could be considered.

Sears Holdings has not announced plans to close Sears #1185, 1 South Tunnel Road, Asheville, North Carolina 28805-2218, and Sears Auto Center #6035, 1 South Tunnel Road, Asheville, North Carolina 28805-2218. ("Asheville Mall, Asheville, North Carolina.")

Sears #2305, Anderson Mall, 3101 North Main Street, Anderson, South Carolina 29621-2764, could be in the process of closing. The adjacent Sears Auto Center #6158 closed in July 2017.

I would like to see more outparcels along the perimeter of Haywood Mall developed.
