I've never been to a Farmers Market. What areas of Hampton Roads are they held? What are the prices like considering there is no advertising and all the other cost that goes into retail prices.

More information please.

There are smaller Farmers' stands in various areas of Virginia Beach and I find the fruits/veggies much better and a heck of alot cheaper. Wait til the crops grow and get some good stuff. The larger markets do get some of their fruits outside of the area, which boosts their prices up a bit.

If you are in Williamsburg, try the Farmers Market on Duke of Gloucester St. The next one is Feb 14th, then March 14 & 28, April 11 . Among other things you will find locally grown: produce, clams, oysters, cut flowers, organic vegetables, herbs, orchids, baked goods, free range chickens, pork sausage, herbal and goat's milk bath products, fresh bread, pumpkins and eggs. You will meet and purchase from the actual growers or producers of all of the items.

Their Mission Statement :To establish the weekly Williamsburg Farmers’ Market in Merchants Square for growers and producers of Eastern Virginia to sell fresh seasonal food and farm products directly to the residents and visitors in the Greater Williamsburg area for the purpose of:
  • Providing healthy regionally produced food to the Williamsburg Community.
  • Stimulating the farm economy and preserving agricultural land.
  • Reviving the historic role of the Williamsburg town center as a place for markets.
  • Creating a fun and educational venue to enhance community life in Williamsburg.
You will see half of Williamsburg there on Saturday mornings ..

If you are looking for a farmers market around Hampton Roads you are pretty much wasting your time..........There is two on the south side, one in Norfolk which has moved from the Norview area to Church Street and one in Va Bch at Princess Anne Rd and Dam Neck......

The one on Church Street tries to bring in local products when they are available during the summer and has a selection of organic products to choose from...Even though its much smaller it was a better market then the one in Va Bch at one time but the owner now has turned it more into a political home base for her future political career she hopes to have and less of a local grown farmers market as of late....

The Va Bch farmers market has a few different stands and from time to time will have some local products but mainly they have their produce shipped in from around the country.....One of the best laughs I ever had was when I was visiting this market and a buyer asked the local salesperson if the coconuts that were for sale were grown locally......and the salesperson said yes.................

Your best bet is to wait until picking season and watch for the ads in the Newspaper....many local farms will list what they have for sale and you can go and pick your own right from their fields but expect to pay as much if not more then what you would pay at the local store....but I guess you get what you pay for sometimes...the local strawberries around the area are some of the best you will find anywhere......And nothing beats a trip out to the mountains in the fall when you can go and pick your own apples straight from the trees

Hi, just looking for any Virginia Beach produced honey that I can find at a roadside vendor or market. Thanks and hope everyone's enjoying the nice weather.

I'd be interested in that as well. We've been having a horrible time with allergies lately, and I've heard a lot of talk the local honey is a natural way to relieve the symptoms. We're going to go the the strawberry festival this weekend, weather permitting. I'll let you know if I see any.

I have gotten VA produced honey at Farm Fresh, but don't remember the brand.

There are many farmers markets on the South Side

Suffolk Suffolk Farmers' Market
Chesapeake Chesapeake Farmers' Market

I asked several of the farmers at the festival, and the honey should be ready soon. The bees are producing, but the hives aren't full yet. They'll have it at the market on PA. I'll let you know when/if I get some. The most local I could find at the festival was Colonial Heights.
