Earthquake now upgraded to 8.9 - models showing this as a larger event than the Chile event.

They will hit all beaches. These are long wave movements that wrap around the islands. They have the effect of raising the level of the ocean... in this case possibly 6 feet... for 15-30 minutes.

Evacuations have now been ordered. It's 10:18 pm local, almost 3 hours since the earthquake occurred of Honshu, Japan.

News says 6' wave. Insane.

Tenzo...hey man, get on the news or at least get out of the danger zones.

Live cams show traffic is getting heavy, long lines forming at gas stations. Take sleeping bags or blankets, evac shelters are not yet open.

May not sound like much to surfers... but it isn't like a 6' moving crest. It's more like the whole ocean rises 6'. Will hit somewhere between high and low tide.
