Hello world!

My wife and I are planning on making our second visit to Maui in January 2012. We wanted to see about spending a day or two in Oahu as well. Not that there's anything wrong with Maui <3. Does anyone know if there's a low-cost charter flight or boat shuttle from Maui to Oahu? Looking at the distance, it looks like it's probably more likely to be a flight...

We miss you Hawaii!

No ferry or boat. Lots of airline choices -- Hawaiian, Go!, Mokulele, Island Air -- all fly several times a day from OGG (Kahului) to HNL. (Can fly Go! or Island from Kapalua to HNL, too.) Not really sure why you'd want a charter, but try Pacific Wings if so.

Best of luck.

Charter flights from to/from Maui/Honolulu are done for several reasons:
1. Time sensative and you must leave at an exact time and can't wait for the scheduled flights.
2. You want to avoid the passeneger terminal hassles and have the money to burn.
3. You want a flight to/from a seconadry airport with limited service.
4. You are hauling baggage that is prohibbited/restricted. oversize, or inconvinient on scheduled passenegr flights.

Otherwise, you have daily multiple flights to and from islands on regular schedled flights that usually meets most people's needs. Maui and Oahu are built up civilized metro areas not some remote arcepelo's of tribal south pacific.

Thanks, "PacificFlights." You are correct. Another situation where charters might make sense is groups. Often golfers prefer the convenience of charters when there are a number of them playing a course on one island or another. We occasionally have enough people to charter for visits to Moloka'i, but everyone seems to prefer the ferry for that trip. And I think there are still charter tours from Maui for seeing the volcano and BI, etc.

The OP had asked for "low-cost charters," though, so I couldn't see it for his case, just going from Maui to HNL.

Default Thanks for the feedback

Thanks a lot for the responses!

I guess I should clarify by 'charter', I meant like one of those regional single-engine type planes and not like a corporate jet. Seems like commercial air is about the only option so maybe we'll just save up my Freq Flier miles etc. and make a separate trip to Oahu later on.

Aloha,
Don't be put off by the fact that the inter-island flights are commercial. They might be less than what you'd pay for a smaller plane, and basically everything gets you to your destination anyway.

If you really want a smaller plane experience, check Go! or Molulele. They run smaller planes than the bigger airlines, and could probably use your business.

It would surely be less than a whole 2nd trip out. Not to discourage you from a 2nd visit. Please do come often and tell your friends. We can use the visitor dollars!
