More than 400,000 hawaiians protested against annexation. It doesnot matter what happened in the 1959 vote for statehood. Legally hawaii was an indipendant nation international law states no too countrys can merge (be annexed) unless there is a treaty between the two countrys. No such treaty ever existed between the hawaiian kingdom and the united states. The hawaiian goverment would never have allowed that. Hawaiians were never pro anexation and never gave up our soverghnthy. The united states illigally took us over and no one intervined and yet the U.S stops sadam hussien from doing to kuwait what the united states has done to us. What a bunch of hypocrites.
I agree, there was something I had read where Sadam was told to get out of Kuwait and his response was... He will get out of Kuwait when the US gets out of Hawaii...

Hawai‘i Island Circuit Court Judges Ronald Ibarra, Greg K. Nakamura, Glenn S. Hara, and District Court Judges Harry P. Freitas and Joseph Florendo are formally under criminal investigation by the Criminal Investigation Section of the Hawai‘i County Police Department for their alleged role in war crimes by denying defendants a fair and regular trial in foreclosure and ejectment proceedings at the court houses in Hilo and Kona. War crimes are felonies under federal law according to the 1996 War Crimes Act, Title 18 United States Code §2441. These preliminary investigations will then be routed to the United States Pacific Command headquartered at Camp Smith in Honolulu for prosecution because it is the federal agency responsible under the War Crimes Act.
The War Crimes Act is enforceable “outside” of U.S. territory when the United States military is the occupant of an occupied State. Title 18, U.S.C., §2441 reinforces the Lili`uokalani assignment, the 1907 Hague Convention, IV, the 1949 Geneva Convention, IV, and U.S. Army Field Manual 27-10 to criminally prosecute individuals who commit war crimes/felonies within Hawaiian territory.
You carefully said "the people of Hawaii" because you knew the Hawaiians themselves had no say because they became a minority.
how or why would anyone else have a say to whether hawaii should become a state or not. its should have been the choice of the native hawaiians, as it was their country, their future, their culture....
Well, I don't know if that was a troll or not but I'm glad that this topic got bumped up a year later otherwise I would have missed it. This topic has been most interesting and historically educational, a real eye opener into some of the past and present of the Hawai'ian islands and people. Right after 9/11, a carpenter guy I know was vacationing in Hawaii. He hired a fishing tour boat and was horrified to see that there were Iranians on the boat. "Irananians with money- trying to sneak into the U.S.!"
