Mahalo everyone for your knowledge and really thought promoting posts.
One of the things that would bring me back to Hawai'i would be the Merrie Monarch competition in Hilo, a competition that happens every year and features the best Halau Hula in the islands.
You forgot the three halau from California who participated in last year's Merrie Monarch.
I wish you would quit calling me "bruddah". I'm wahine. Or did you used to call everyone bruddah when you lived here in the 80's?
No sorry but i had no clue your were wahine, your profile doesn't say anything and ive been calling you brah for how long now with no indication otherwise from you. Obviously no stink on my part was intended ok?
From this point on you will be known as Maika`i Wahine

You seemed so unhappy about your monetary situation on Maui.
Living in Houston is far worse. Money wasn't the main reason I moved back, but family reasons. I just didn't want to share all of that on this forum.
On Maui I have a much better chance of running a successful photography business. It's much better being a big fish in a small pond as one of the Maui natives I was friends with at the County said... hell I managed to photograph Linda freaking Lingle. Overall cost of living is lower also. Houston is now a very expensive place thanks to the oil boom. I'm also stuck as an illegally classified contractor which is the norm here, and for every job I apply for in Texas I'm "second best" so as far as I can tell I've dead ended my GIS career unless I can get out.

Wink, I admire that you are willing to go after what you want and are wanting to improve your situation. However, please, please, PLEASE be more prepared this time. Use what you learned from your last experience living in Hawaii. For example, DON'T move to Hawaii with debt. DO have a good amount of savings that will get you settled and keep you going. DO have an emergency fund set up and keep it untouched so that IF things don't work out you can then easily afford to relocate without a bunch of stress.
Wishing you much success.
