Aloha, if you have never had a shave ice then your missing out, so much different then snow cones. Hawai'i has so many ono(good) grindz(food) its amazing. Id say da shave ice is a staple. Heres a clip about shave ice and a favorite spot Matsomutos. I heard rumors that they closed or are closing. But never fear there will be shave ice for you when you visit or move. Aloha.
What cracked me up about this clip was that every time this Australian guy referred to it, he called it "shaved" ice, even after he heard it called shave ice.

Ya prob a mental slip, kind of like mainlanders calling it snow cones.
Though its wonderful to share culture, songs, food, customs, beliefs of Hawai'i for me. I know there are other kamaaina on here that know knowledge or have other things that i don't. I would be honored if they would share some of there Aloha for the culture of Hawai'i. Feel free to post. Mahalo.
Driving today from airport to downtown to meet friends for happy hour. Exited Vineyard because of traffic. Right at the west edge of Chinatown, a beautiful but looked to be strung out Pacific Islander actively and boldly soliciting traffic in her short shorts and bikini top. You don't see that on the mainland everyday.

No you don't, i think its sad for anyone to lose hope like that, esp in our moderntimes of support systems and social services and opportunities.
Today i think one thing that is great about Hawai'i, is people love to celebrate, and a few celebrations is graduations, mothers day or lei day. Traditionaly this is a time to present the grad, mom or loved one a lei. There are many different kinds of lei, flower, candy, money, shells. But whatever type its a symbol of affection and respect to recieve on because it most of the time been made by the giver. So there are many different lei that can be made. Today lets learn to make a candy lei that is great for the keiki or young grad. Heres some info
