I wonder how many tourists come over here, go grocery shopping at the ever so convenient ABC store, and then base their expenses upon that alone.""OH MY GOD MILDRED!!!! MILK IS 9 BUCKS!!!!!! FOR A HALF GALLON!!!!"
TADTS
Ya don't disagree be disagreeable, the new aloha way! Unless im misunderstanding you? I used milk and cigarettes as an example of food cost because thats what I could find for current prices. So you take the highcost of housing or rents, then the crazy cost of electricity and couple that with very low wages. Then I ask you? Buying a gallon of milk for $9 is it extreme or cigarettes $10? Yes, No, Maybe? Truth or not?
I have never paid the $9 for milk. From what I remember supermarkets usually had one brand on sale, now I buy from Costco, but only the organic so I'm not sure how much it is.
Between sales and Costco I it was pretty much covered. There is a reason Costco Iwilei is the best selling Costco worldwide. When I was single I learned how to freeze and store almost everything so I could save money. If it didn't come from there or a sale ad, it wasn't eaten.

Yeah the $9 gallon of milk is in honolulu, which is the most expensive place in Hawai'i besides maybe waikiki.
Very smart! Sounds like good advice that we all should take.
Your argument is Honolulu isnt the most expensive place on the islands?
That is fairly well established outside of housing - which is balanced by higher wages.
Practically every single thing outside of housing is more expensive on the other islands, gas, electricity, groceries, and on and on and on....I'm still guess you've never gone shopping on the other islands.

I believe I answered your question, no im a Oahu boy. Lived Honolulu and Waipahu. This is why I only post in Hawai'i general or oahu for the most part.
So are you saying Honolulu has higher wages, how so? Isn't the min wages the same? Unless your talking higher end jobs like tech, etc? Then of course Honolulu will have more higher paying jobs.
That is what I'm saying - and I'm sticking with it, per the US Census
Median household income:
Oahu: 72K
Big Island: 52K
Kauai: 64K
Maui: 64K
AVERAGE RENT*
MEAN AVERAGE WAGE
INCOME NEEDED
Hawaii (Big Island)
$1,044
$10.79
$20.08/hour or $41,760/year
Honolulu (Oahu)
$1,833
$14.12
$35.25/hour or $73,320/year
Kauai
$1,685
$12.55
$32.40/hour or $67,400/year
Maui (includes Molokai and Lanai)
$1,315
$13.04
$25.29/hour or $52,600/year
State
$1,671
$13.56
$32.14/hour or $66,853/year
Further, the hr wage would be to equal cost of living on each island.
I agree viper higher average income in Oahu because Oahu tends to be the rich mans island, more mainland move here then anywhere else. Aloha
