Aloha!

My wife and I have decided after visiting, that we want to move to the island. Just looking for direction on where to get advise on becoming an "Alien Resident"

I work in law enforcement and have learned that I can get hired even as a "non-citizen". My wife on the other hand works in the film industry. Does any one know if it hard to find work in Hawaii? Also what is the cost of living like? How much does a household need to make a year in order to live comfortably?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Jason

Generally, law enforcement agencies in the US will not hire unless the individual is a green card holder at the very least. Have you spoken to each of the islands' respective agencies about that? Honolulu PD - " Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States." I'd suggest checking US immigration websites on the best way to figure out how to emigrate.

As for cost of living. It is high. I'd say a large amount of LEOs, on Oahu at least, work another job. The pay for police or jobs in general just aren't comparable with the mainland, or even Canada, to hold the same living standard.

I'd say $50k will allow you to get by.

There are a lot of job openings all over the place. The police force is always looking for recruits.

The film industry is another thing though. It's very limited.

We are a new family moving to Maui in February this year. 50K we do not have! It all depends on your lifestyle and how you want to live. For us we are okay with being anywhere and come from a expensive little island in Canada. My partner has dual citizenship and we plan on getting married there. Another try at becoming a american for us is my status as a indian - do either of you have that?
