The May 2011 storm was much worse. You couldn't even walk the Hobron Ln/Ala Moana area without walking in near knee deep water.
Don't be wimpy folks. A bit of rain, lightning, and thunder (albeit house shaking) is just a flesh wound.
With that said when I originally posted it was a non-event (when it was past Oahu) - it's more of an event now but the lighting and thunder was worse in Dec 2008 and I've seen worse rain.

This likely set new records at least in downtown area. You're not here. The rain is like I've never seen (and not anecdotal - I have hard data).
As of 8:45 pm the H-1 is a parking lot (headed west). I'm assuming the freeway is flooded and either some or all lanes are closed.

Tell that to the thousands sitting in their car for hours - and still sitting in their cars.
The two largest thoroughfares in the urban core are completely shut down in both direction due to rain. This has never happened in all history.
In 3 hours my downtown area home received 7.3 inches of rain. My "small" 7,500 SF lot just received 34,100 gallons of rain. That is THREE (3) pools, each 30 feet long, 17 feet wide and 6 feet deep. From bone dry... to full to the brim.
By far the most impressive rain event I've ever witnessed.
Location: not sure, but there's a hell of a lot of water around here!

Considering that all that came from the remnants of hurricane Darby, an Irish name if ever I've heard one, did you happen to taste any of the downpour for the slightest hint of,,,, uuuurrrrrppppp, scuze me, Guiness Stout???
If so, too bad you're not on catchment
Had a crew working out in Kapolei in 1996 when they had one of those 'once in a hundred years' downpours. Driving back to Nuuanu on the H1, I pulled off onto the side to let the water skiers pass by. Honolulu, friggin aina lolo.

Don't think these guys on H-1 had enough speed.
Yes, those parking lights are UNDER water.
Based on their positions, that water got deep enough to literally float the cars. That's a good 3-4 feet of water covering that entire section of freeway. I wonder how long it's going to take to clear out all that water.
Nimitz is also still closed hours later. Imagine if this rain occurred during the middle of a weekday. Would have made that pedestrian overpass disaster in Aiea 10 years ago seem like a typical Friday afternoon.
Oahu got more rain than any other island. Much more!
Big Island had the damaging winds, but not quite so bad this time.
