Thanks, WhiteViper! It's nice to know that those high pressure areas that make our climate lovely are stable and going to continue. That was an interesting link, I've never really wondered how the weather worked around here, probably since it doesn't usually change that much.
if you think that.... thats how the weather works... I big to differ... this vid shows allot.. of weather manipulation...

Maybe they can manipulate Madeline and Lester away from the islands?
So are we gonna be concerned about Madeline? And how'd we get from Darby to Madeline? That's a lot of named storms this year, isn't it?
I also thought I heard a newscaster mention a cyclone in our area? Do we do cyclones? Maybe I should pay better attention to weather folks on the TV to actually figure out what they're talking about. I just thought it odd that there'd be a cyclone around here.

Well, hotzcatz, since you asked: NOAA says that "hurricane" and "typhoon" are regionally specific names for a strong "tropical cyclone". Tropical cyclones with maximum sustained surface winds of less than 39 mph are usually called "tropical depressions". Once the tropical cyclone reaches winds of at least 39 mph they are typically called a "tropical storm" and are assigned a name. If winds reach 74 mph, then they are called (1) "hurricane" in the North Atlantic Ocean, the Northeast Pacific Ocean east of the dateline, or the South Pacific Ocean east of 160E; (2) "typhoon" in the Northwest Pacific Ocean west of the dateline; and so on with different names around the world.
Clear as mud, huh?
