Gov. Ige just announced the state will be addressing re-opening plans this week. While there has been ongoing concern watching the very recent and unabated rise in the rates of infection in states like Arizona, Oregon, California, etc., etc., apparently Hawai'i has been closely watching how Alaska has implemented access to the state. Gov. Ige stated that Hawai'i has been in communication with Alaska to learn what methods and procedures have been both successful and unsuccessful in Alaska's opening.

They've been saying we are watching the Alaska thing for weeks. It isn't that difficult to fly someone up to Alaska, observe a day or two - and present a plan.

It is hard to rank this interview as his worst - because they have all been awful.

He could have said: We will be presenting a plan on Thursday on a limited reopening of the State to returning residents and visitors. Or, I am extending the 14 day quarantine until Aug 31.

He needs someone to tell him how awful and weak it is to not be able to answer direct questions.

No plan is not a plan.

Non binding, and likely he'll just ignore it. His actions IS criminal. He is pretty much acting like a dictator due to the crisis, and not even bothering to provide clear guidance on when things will reopen or even bother asking for extension of emergency powers, which have already expired.

The DOJ filed a statement of interest today in support of residents who have filed a lawsuit challenging Ige’s use of his emergency powers during the outbreak, which includes the implementation of the interisland and out-of-state travel quarantines.
----------------
The plaintiffs challenged Ige’s extension of a state of emergency beyond 60 days, after which state law states it will automatically end, as well as the use of the travel quarantines.

CDC announced today that actual cases may be 10 times more than reported cases - if so, that lands the mortality rate closer to .5% - higher than flu, but not all doom and gloom of multiple percentage points.

The true number of Americans who've been infected with COVID-19 may top 20 million, according to new estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"Our best estimate right now is that for every case that's reported, there actually are 10 other infections," CDC director Dr. Robert Redfield said on a call with reporters Thursday.

And unfortunately it ain't slowing down except in those communities where residents are wearing masks,
practicing physical distancing outside the home and frequently washing one's digits. Places like Rhode Island and Hawai'i.

CDC estimated IFR that's been out for about a month hasn't changed as far as I know.

The new estimates of fatality rate released by the CDC are as follows for different age groups:

0-49 years old: 0.05%
50-64 years old: 0.2%
65+ years old: 1.3%
Overall ages: 0.4%

Flu is .1% overall. Once a vaccine is released, I can easily see this dropping to flu levels or lower. Eventually they'll likely combine flu shot with covid.
