My favorite non-destructive treatment is a shower spray as hot as I can stand it. It's almost as good as scratching but without the risk of breaking the skin. Then an application of anti-itch creme.

Hot water will dry out your skin and make it itchy.

Cooling the skin off with cold water, ice or volatile liquid (like alcohol or menthol type stuff) applications will give you temporary relief. Warming it usually makes it worse.

More important is to figure out the cause: simple dry skin, dermatitis, infestation, infection (like early shingles or yeast) are common. Cancer or causes of elevated calcium levels, or liver or renal diseases need to be considered if it's not just a day or three long problem.

I've had a "hot spot" in between my shoulder blades on the left side for years.

It gets very itchy sometimes and can be very distracting and uncomfortable.

I've asked several doctors including two dermatologists about it and they all blame it on irritated nerves in that area.

They say it's nothing to worry about and suggest cortisone etc, which does nothing.

Cortisone cream can help. So can Gold Bond powder. If the itch continues you may want to see a dermatologist.

Yes this time of the year is dry skin season. We use Vaseline Intensive Care to eliminate dry skin. Sometimes we also add to the VIC an aloe vera product. Works wonders.
