Too many people conflate historical isolationism a la Borah/Lindbergh with American self-interest. The former is an anomaly of simpler times; the latter is a perfectly rational approach to foreign policy.

If someone like Trump have ben President in the 1960s it is very likely that places like New York , Washington, Chicago, Houston, Denver, Los Angles and Seattle would be burned out ruins. The only question would there be any surviving Americans scavenging the radioactive ruins for anything still useful . Pieces of metal to shape into knives or spear points would be most treasured l.

We came close to that sort of future America several times during the 1960s (namely 1961 (The Berlin Crisis), 1962 (The Cuban Missile crisis), 1967 (The 6 Day War), 1968 (North Korea and the shooting down of a EC135 and The seizure of a US recon ship called The Pueblo) and 1969 (The Sino-Soviet clash and the strange sinking of Soviet K-135 off Midway Island (a Delta class SLBM boat (and the target of Mr Hughes Glomar Explorer).

There were a lot of people who wouldn't have passed the NAZI Right to Life test. First on the list were the disabled, mentally ill or developmentally challenged, LGTBs, anyone black or colored (you might have lucked out and been slaves) intellectuals, socialists, communists, Christians, Muslims etc, etc, etc.

The Germans didn't leave the game. American, British, Canadian and Soviet soldiers had met and shook hands at the Elbe River by April 30, 1945 and nearly all of Germany was feeling the tromp of American, British, Canadian and Soviet boots!

The bulk of Germans were Christians. The German church officials mostly support the regime. Yes, there were exceptions, and some people can name all of him.

What if your Dad had been gay?

Sounds silly hey? So is your question. The past is the past, accept it and move on with your sad life.

The atomic bomb was no secret from the USSR because a copy of the M.A.U.D. report commissioned by the Admiralty analyzing the feasibility of such a bomb was on Lavrenti Beria's desk at Lubyanka at the same time Mr.Churchill and his scientific advisor Prof. Tizard were giving the same report to President Roosevelt and his scientific advisor Dr. Bush.

Always forgotten. Poor Canada. The Manhattan Project was a US/UK/CAN effort.

If Hawaii had not been part of the U.S., President Obama's mother would not have lived there when she gave birth. She would have lived on the mainland.
