You have an attractant, the pond. You may temporarily scare them away with dogs, the various scare decoys will stop working unless they're moved around daily, but that pond will draw them back. Resident ducks and migrants both.

A dog won't work. They'll get used to the dog being around. Even if the dog chases the ducks, they'll come back whenever the dog isn't around. Don't get a dog for only the purpose. A dog deserves a home with people who wanted a dog to be part of the family.

We have some friends who simply put some heavy white string on sticks across the back of their property that faces a pond (basically, a string fence). The ducks and geese won't walk under the string - I didn't believe it until I saw it.

Thanks. I will try this as it sounds the most practical.

This sounds like a great idea as well. Can you tell me what the cost per yard is.

Whats wrong with people being people? Walking on a lawn full of duck feces is annoying and you very well know it. It damages the exterior aesthetics around ones house. There should be a way to prevent this without harming the animals. My dad purchased this house in Mid January. At that time we were unaware that there was pond here as everything was covered under a foot of snow. Our township failed to show the location of a pond in this neighborhood. Little did I know that we were living next to a body of water till 2 weeks back. Now, its too late to change our bad decision. The house interiors are fantastic and very comfortable, but land surrounding us is not too favorable.

Whats wrong with fencing your backyard. Our neighbors on both sides had already erected 6 foot high fences prior to our arrival in this neighborhood, hence its just us. We only need to focus on a single portion facing the pond. In short, I guess that's the only way to deal with duck issues in this place. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

THANK YOU! I hate when people suggest getting a dog like it is on the same level as a owl decoy or some chemical repellant.
