That actually seems quite reasonable considering the cost of lumber, the cost and shortage of labor these days. I built our deck, half that size completely by myself, and it was over $2,000 just for the wood. . .that was in 1996. I used 5/4 Clear Vertical Grain Cedar decking, and pressure treated underneath. Just this last spring I replaced a few of the deck boards and they were $17.28 each for cheaper mixed grain tightknot.

I tried for 4 years to get someone to redo our 2nd story deck. I couldn't even get quotes, no one wanted to do it. Finally last year a good friend decided he would do it - 4 years after I first asked. $24K for all along the back of the house and wide steps down to the ground. It was worth the wait and the money. He calls it his masterpiece and he has other customers lined up.

You are in Seattle - where cedar is abundant and probably the norm to use. Here PT decks are the norm, and the prices are no where near what cedar is. The deck companies here have no shortage of labor it seems. They are everywhere! And very busy, as they are making a mint apparently!

It's the price you've just gotta pay. Deck building is a difficult skill that takes years to master and they are in short supply these days. I mean you could find some jack of all tradesman on craigslist to do it for you, but keep in mind you get what you pay for. You also run the risk of him suddenly ghosting you while not finishing the job.

In my opinion...... You should pay the 30k.

Again, you get what you pay for.

LOL. No, I'm not paying 30k for a deck. I'll pay, but damn sure not that much. That's just absurd.

Of course I am replacing my deck. I just am not going with the one that was at the top of the estimates. And I still have more estimates to get.

Trex for 465 feet decking runs roughly 7200. Then add everything else.

I don't get why people don't put in nice aggregate concrete. It lasts 50 years with virtually no maintenance.
