I did my deck back in 2018. Was $20K or so for roughly 400-500sf of composite. All new as there was no existing deck, so new footings and foundations.
I'd say it was worth it as it gets a lot of use. Cleanup is simple as well using a pressure washer. Usually a cleanup in the early spring, and one in the fall and she looks like new.
I redid my tri-level deck in 2020 with Fiberon PVC. Since I was doing the railings in the same material and the edges would be visible, I didn't want the wavy bottom of the Trex. Was $6500 for the decking and railing, which I bought from a relatively local wholesaler (and they delivered it for $200). I was lucky in that I could replace the old PT myself.
I wanted Fiberon, but I ended up going with a guy that will be using Trex and Wolf. I'm getting black aluminum pickets - that was one of my must haves - I see so many decks with the white PVC pickets and always get mildew and look awful to me.

Have a friend with the white (fiberglass?) railing and posts and she indicated she's always cleaning off what looks like a mold/algae gunk. Have you have that problem?
Our new deck was completed yesterday. Getting pictures together to post. We used PT. Couldn't afford Trex for the size of the project we were doing but we are really happy with the work. And we will do additional 'finishing' work next spring with the same builder.
Total right around $16K. Postech Posts were set, 20x24 deck and 20x14 overhang with shingle roofing. Cable railings with a gate and a very basic 'box' step to get into the grass. It is like night and day from what was there.
Excuse the mess around our new deck. The trench is where a new propane line will be buried tomorrow or Friday (we're moving the propane tank, too). But for the most part, the deck is done. We have some finish work to do on it and prettifying up around it, gonna move part of the chain link fence, but it's done! and before winter!!! yay!!!

Thank you so much Mike!!! I already love it.
We spent many many summers on the junky deck so this new space is going to be a dream. There is nothing in back of us or on either side except woods and fields, so it will be a little oasis.
The same builder is going to finish up things we didn't think of for this project (duh) in the spring.
IMO money well spent.
Next week I'm having my 2nd story deck boards and railings replaced with Trex for about $11k. The main deck is 220sf, with a small landing and one flight of steps.
The contractor will also be installing a pergola that I purchased from Costco on the deck.

A little. A quick pressure wash and it's good for a year. It's still better than what the original wood decking and railing looked like after it weathered a bit. Looked great to start with, but then it needed more staining and painting and the original railings got nasty looking. This is how it started back in 2003.

I loved that pergola Costco had! It was a good price and I actually considered purchasing one before we finally found the man who built our deck.
Just an update on this thread - my old deck is gone and the new one is going up!
