I figured downtown Houston would have some good venues for a single 27 year-old guy; as well as uptown. But since Houston is so spread out, I know that there would be some other good areas as well. What are good places to visit for an "out of towner" like me? My last few trips to the Houston area involved going to parks like Brazos Bend and Sheldon Lake, but I want to actually enjoy the city itself on this trip. Any suggestions appecitated!!

As far as venues go - what type of venues are you looking for - clubs/restaurants (try Washington Avenue). Parks (try Discovery Green downtown and then perhaps walking a block or two over to Phoenicia market for a bite) Sporting Events? Museums/the arts (nice museum district between Downtown and the Med Center)?

Well, I know that I want to visit Houston's renowed Museum District. As for clubs/bars, anything that plays music other than country and fits my age group (i.e. mid to upper 20's) works for me. I' am the kind of guy who not only likes to be around people my age, but people who are older as well.

In fact, when it comes to the ladies, I' am guilty of liking "cougars" lol! So anywhere they would hang out would be good to. I know Houston must have SEVERAL places where ladies like that congregate. Anyway, I do plan on buying tickets for UH's next game, but don't think that will be for this weekend.

Anyway, thank you very much for your suggestions! I shall look up the phoenicia and the Discovery Green online, as well as some other venues.

Skip the grocery store and have some fun on Washington Ave and Rice Village.

Washington Avenue is where the bars and restaurants are for your age group -- you might find a few cougars but not too many. Only suggested Phoenicia for a bite for lunch IF he was going to Discovery Green Park to spend some time. Its a mediterranean market with some nice hot food and a small bar (but not a hang out kind of bar - just a place to grab a drink after the park). But if you aren't downtown or at the Park, can't see making a stop there.

Anvil is an upper scale bar with lots of ladies. sure they are all in groups though. not really a place for a lone person. maybe im just not that brave. a few of the nicer restaurants have active bars as well. Haven comes to mind. Plenty of the younger crowd drinking in the front and never make it to dinner
