Also, my understanding in regards to getting a rental through a realtor is obviously first month rent and deposit (usually equal to rent but refundable) which I'm fine with....but then also isn't there the realtor's commission (usually also equal to one month rent - nonrefundable)???

If your husband is working at Methodist Hospital in the medial center, West U and Bellaire will be much more convenient from a commute perspective. That is why so many physicians live in these areas. There are good public schools in both West University and Bellaire, especially the elementary schools. You should be able to find a nice house within your budget in either West U or Bellaire.

Landlord pays that.

With your budget and work location I'd live in West U.

Do you know what the commute is like between Memorial Village and the Medical center during rush hour? The distance doesn't seem that bad when I look on a map but obviously with traffic it could be a different story.

We lived in tanglewood before and my wife did that commute for a year. I10 or I610, during rush hour, you can bet on going no more than 20 mph by the galleria area.

We moved near afton oaks now and she takes the local or 59, max commute is 25 mins.

Interesting - Having rented in both Chicago and NYC the renter usually pays for the realtor fee - good to know things are different in Houston
