As you can see...part of being "visionary" is knowing when an idea really stinks before committing the capital in an effort to bring said seriously crappy idea to fruition.

Kinda like they didn't do in Dubai, at least in the case of The Islands.
This is the "world" archipelago I was referring to the "Palms" which peninsulas sticking out. Those have been doing quite well actually.

From the satellite image above there looks like there is a marina, hotel, and many of the "fans" are filled in by housing. This is not unlike something you might see in South Florida where they build a ton of canals inland. Only here it is out in the Persian Gulf.

While Houston talks about needing a swimming hole, Austin built one which just opened today:

About - NLand Surf Park

This is the first inland surfing beach in the world. Like I said, Houston is resting on its laurels, even "lowly" Austin is passing you up in attractions.

2.) Austin hasn't passed Houston up yet.

Houston's swimming hole will be more diverse.

Oh you mean surf the 1 foot waves in the Gulf? The only time the waves are good enough to surf is if a tropical storm is in the Gulf.

Big swells come with oil tankers that move in/out.
