Great. Now you can compare that to other cities so we can see the trends across the board.

Houston homicides up 35%; higher percent increase than Chicago, LA or NY https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2021/06/09/houston-police-detectives-working-199th-homicide-this-year/
“ The total number of homicides is also higher in Houston than in Los Angeles, a city with nearly twice the population. It’s also higher than New York City, a city of more than eight million people.”

What’s even more crazy is we’re not even taking in account of all the murders outside of the city limits. It’s the worst I’ve seen since moving here 22 years ago.

As long as I’ve lived in Houston, one thing I’ve come to expect is that Houston’s crime spike will be temporary, and it’ll start to decline. It’s only so much criminality people can get away with in Houston until authorities start cracking down. If we’re honest, how much of this crime is attributed to street politics?

I'm sure it's no different in suburban areas of other major metros.

This is Houston though. People being nonchalant about crime saying "well x city is dealing with an increase too" is not going to help the problem at all locally and a real regressive way at looking at this. Many cities got worse, some suburbs did too, but not everywhere. There also seems to be a common theme which is a lot of "progressive" judges or DAs were voted in. Hopefully people in Houston don't accept this crime BS just because some other cities have an increase too.

I can tell some of these folks haven't lived in Houston from the late 70s-90s, how they're making a big deal of rising crime in Houston. Houston's a big city, and like all major cities, it's not exempt from crime.

And like all big cities, there is no harm in discussing the crime in Houston and holding officials accountable for some of their policies. But for some reason the main response is "well other cities have crime" or "Houston was worse in the 70s/80s" as if that matters to anyone living in Houston in 2021. Like I don't care that back then Club Creek area was the hotspot for young people wanting "fancy" apartments because today it is a high crime spot.

Exactly. Houston has a legitimate crime increase and comparing it to other cities crime rates doesn't exactly make it better. Strange that it was mentioned several times in this thread.
