They are not sneaking into the schools - SMH.

People rent for various reasons. Not all renters are poor uneducated people "sneaking" into schools. Many of them are highly educated, holding multiple degrees and making six figures. Don't assume because someone has decided not to have a mortgage that they are "less than" and will drive down your property values.

Paying a high HOA doesn't grant you the right to go to a "better school" - they actually have nothing to do with schools. It doesn't matter which part of Cy-Fair you live in, you are still paying the same school property tax rate, whether you live near Cy-Ranch or Langham Creek High Schools.

BTW, Towne Lake has two apartment communities within it. The Senior, above 55 apartments on West Road near the college, and the apartments on Barker Cypress near Kroger. Home values did not decrease because of those apartments, they actually have continued to rise. And TL is building more apartments on the north end near Cypress Creek.

And I know that HOA fees don't pay for the schools, but it's additional price the owners have to pay to get into the community. Apartment renters don't pay these fees but still can sneak into the same schools.
Excuse me? Sneak in? How is their presence any less legitimate than property owners? They moved into apartments zoned to those schools legitimately & pay rent & have just as much right to public school education as homeowners. Maybe you'd like to go back to days when only property owners could vote as well. I'm sorry but the position that they are "sneaking in" is just not a legitimate position. A very poor choice of words at the very least.

I agree. People have to live somewhere.

Well there are tons of options to live 'somewhere'.
But those areas like Towne Lake attract homeowners partially due to schools with high rankings.

So? Aren't the people who live in apartments entitled to the same schools as the people who own homes? Or are renters somehow less than human and only deserving of poor quality stuff?

That's an interesting idea actually. Build a private school within the fortress of the gated community that is funded by the HOA fees and is restricted to residents.

(Of course you can still pay taxes and help support the public schools outside the walls.)

Just for grins...take a peek at Michael Moore's 1994 segment on the gated city of Rosemont, Illinois.

If you’re worried about the area, support the local church.

I don't understand the mentality that owners of upscale suburban homes are "owed" protection of their school demographics through land use regulation by local government. It's a very prevalent attitude, however.

Me neither. But that’s not what we’ve been arguing. Maybe the folks focusing on Towne Lake has been arguing that. I’ve just argued against continued bad planning and decline of North Katy which is not an upper middle class area.

Yes, my comment was related to other comments about the children from the apartments being able to attend the same schools as Towne Lake kids, which apparently some posters were not happy about.
