Lets stick to the topic at hand...hypotheticals are pointless and take us down different paths...feel free to open a new thread on your hypothetical...this topic still has legs.
Andreabeth was pointing out the fallacy in your argument. The "system" does not allow and encourage illegals. The system is not being obeyed. The system is being broken by people. The phenomenon is not a result of the system. Illegal immigration is a result of people ignoring the system.
I disagree...the system is set up such that the laws are in place to appease the public...but the reality is they are purposely not enforced by those in power because Big Business lobbies hard and ensures loose borders....that is the way the system is set up....to be abused, manipulated, and corrupted. It is not the people...the system allows and encourages Big Business to spend money on politicians to influence voting, actions, laws, and big profits for themselves. It is surely no phenomenon..it is how the political system works...fundraisers to get elected...then all those donors cashing in via special treatment for whatever they want...allowing illegal immigration to flow unchecked benefits ONLY these business...and lines their pockets....and so Big Business lines politicians pockets...which helps them get elected...and the cycle continues...it's the American way.
That hypothetical does nothing to my argument except take us off topic.
Another sign that this area is losing its identity. This area is traditionally Irish, Italian, Polish, as well as Catholic....and personally, I like it that way. Before you know it, we won't be known for St Patricks Day and Old Forge Pizza....we'll be known for Cinco de Mayo and chimichangas.
Good Grief!
This country was actually inhabited by Mexicans/Native indians long before the Europeans settled in the Americas.

Let him go. Remember, the illegals are always completely blameless in this. What a hoot!

Yeah. We all know that "the system" is a living, breathing entity; capable of making decisions and acting on its own. Heaven forbid we hold people accountable for any of these actions (perpetrated by "the system," of course).
I do not say illegals are saints are victims. What I am saying is to assign blame where it belongs. Assign blame on the politicians that are passing the laws that encourage this behavior. Assign blame to the corporations that are selling out the country just to make a buck. Assign blame to the government that has created and encourages a system based on kickbacks, "fundraisers", and mixes politics with Big Business.
Of course..it is easy to blame the illegals for ruining this country....and that is exactly what big business will have you do....keeps them focus off of them and the collosal rape of the country. Yes...blame the illegals..they are ruining everything...and big business is laughing all the way to the bank...you are busy fighting over the last egg in the fridge when big business owns the chicken and all future chicken rights! lol
I think that some of us would not mind people coming in (LEGALLY, of course), if they "assimilated" - learned the language, learned how we live (like we dont throw trash on the lawns or park cars there unless we're real low-lives), followed our customs, etc., as WE would be expected to do in some other country, as well.
No one likes to have people come in who DISRESPECT our way of life, and become spoilers who trash our neighborhoods, play very loud music, live 10 people to one apartment, have cars parked all over the streets, etc.
Whether this is "hispanic" behavior or maybe "lower class" behavior, we don't like it. Why would we?
If LEGAL hispanic immigrants got with the program, I don't think people would be as prejudiced, and we wouldnt' complain about new people no matter where they were from. (the illegals, on the other hand, deport 'em)
No one likes a person who comes in with an attitude that we are here to "serve" them by putting everything in their language, or that we must accept their bad behavior, which many of you have described here. If they were respectful to American citizens who welcome them with open arms (being they're legal), they wouldn't have the problems they have with "hatred".
