So I was thinking about illegal immigration and I started thinking, if you are AGAINST illegal immigration, then what would you do if a relative entered into a consensual relationship with an illegal immigrant and they wanted to get married? It could be your daughter/son/granddaughter/grandson/nephew or niece, doesn't matter. Let's go ahead and assume that BEYOND A DOUBT you can prove that they really do love each other and they want to be together so this is not a green card marriage. Would you be for or against the marriage? Why or why not?

P.S. I do not want this to be against certain ethnic groups. The question is would you or would you not support the decision of your relative.

Ok, some people voted and that is cool, but can you tell me why you would be against the marriage? Or for it?

I would tell my relation to do it the right way and not live with a criminal.

It's not about being against the marriage but that one spouse is here illegally and shouldn't get a pass on our immigration laws because of the marriage. IMO, the spouse here illegally should return to their homeland and start legal proceedings to come here. The U.S. citizen spouse should try to join them in their own country during the wait but if that's not possible it is what it is. I am opposed to being able to adjust one's status on our soil after coming illegally in the first place. I also don't think that being married to a citizen should give them priority over others. It may not be a popular opinion but it is the way I view it.

I would be against the marriage since the illegal would be green card hunting and will go to any measure to secure one. You don't know if he/she already has a spouse and children where he/she came from.

I think the spouse of the illegal should guide him/her legally on how to come here if they truly love each other.

Your poll is flawed because it is only about immigration. What your asking is about someone marrying a non-resident and there is nothing wrong with that, it's done all the time.

What the op was trying to do is find at what point other posters would justify illegal immigration or find a point in which you would accept it.

Um no, re-read the wording in the poll. It is about illegal immigration not "immigration".

Exactly. It is designed to try and force acceptance at some point. After acceptance is obtained then the attempt is made to justify why illegal immigration. You said you would accept it if.... Therefore it it isn't bad.
Sort of like if I asked: If your wife were dying and you could only get her to a hospital if you stole a car. Would you?
Of course most would say that they would steal a car. It's an emergency, your wife will die otherwise.
They will then say : "How can you condemn car thieves when you admit that you would steal a car also?"
