Let's see if President Elect Trump delivers.
No one in that article has a backup plan, e.g. thinking about going back to school or re-training. And no one mentioned looking at their expenses and seeing if they can put away a little more money in case things don't pan out. One sentence about "don't know what he/she is going to do." Lovely.

"Shortage of workers" is always an anti-capitalist lie. A true capitalist knows shortages are lies, because when the demand exceeds the supply, the price goes up till the number available equals the demand at that price. What employers really mean by shortages of workers is that the market is making it harder for employers to exploit and oppress workers. In other words, the market is demanding employers be less communist and more capitalist. H1b is a communist scam to take capitalism out of the labor market, to help improve the jackboots with which fascist employers stomp on workers.

You can not have 94 million Americans out of the labor force and have a "shortage of labor". More Americans are out of the labor force than the population of Germany.

LOL, and then watch what happens as a result, think for a moment what will happen with his planned 45% tariff or whatever it winds up being! Guess what, it will be a 45% SALES TAX on us, because almost everything today is made overseas, mostly China, that includes heavy machinery, tools, equipment, almost all electronics, computers, cell phones, you name it, so what happens when your farm tractor breaks down and you need PARTS and those parts for your Kobota tractor come from the only manufacturer who makes them- in JAPAN and they have a 45% tariff, er SALES TAX on them?

Tariffs start TRADE WARS, which mean the spare parts and whatnot you will need will go up in price too.

I do believe from the bottom of my heart Trump will do what he thinks is best for all of Americans in general and blue collar working class American's in particular.
Too bad he sucked you into his lie too, he's already stacking his administration with the very same type people he wanted to drain Washington of- big buck donors, corporate moguls, lobbyists, rightwing nuts and worse,Trump cares about himself not you.

Try and have a little faith in Trump. Trump knows how to make deals. Deal making is what he does. Give him a chance and see how things go for the USA in the next 4 years.
This is a guy who made such great "deals" he went BANKRUPT several times and left creditors and others holding the bag! How many small businesses did he ruin by leaving them holding the bag for a large sum of money they couldn't afford to lose?

The king of bankruptcy is going to "save" us all:

Report: Donald Trump's companies at least $650 million in debt

Donald Trump’s properties are indebted to a number of large financial institutions, including some that he’s repeatedly maligned on the campaign trail, according to a new report by the New York Times.
The newspaper found that holdings by Trump have debt amounting to at least $650 million -- a far cry from the amount ($315 million) filed on the personal financial disclosure forms he gave to the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

As president, Mr. Trump would have substantial sway over monetary and tax policy, as well as the power to make appointments that would directly affect his own financial empire. He would also wield influence over legislative issues that could have a significant impact on his net worth, and would have official dealings with countries in which he has business interests.
Yet The Times’s examination underscored how much of Mr. Trump’s business remains shrouded in mystery. He has declined to disclose his tax returns or allow an independent valuation of his assets.
(GEE I WONDER WHY!!)

Now he plans to stack the Supreme court with "pro life conservative bent" justices, FORGET about a court that is fair and balanced, he wants it to be strictly RIGHT bent and this doesn't go away in 4 years when he does, we'll be stuck with that court for the next 30 or 40 years!

We'll give him a chance and work with him- the SAME way he and his party did with OBAMA for the last freaking 8 YEARS!
None of us forgot that "muslim terrorist who wasnt born in the USA" garbage, nor the 8 years of obstructions and we're going to see to it he gets the same in return, he's not MY president!

How are you going to do that? Congress has Republican majorities. They've been waiting 8 years to pass their agenda, while obstructing the Democrats' agenda. The Democrats can't obstruct theirs now, because they have no majorities.

Abortion is going to be a thing of the past. Welfare is going to be reduced. Section 8 housing will be cheaper and more crowded. Millionaires and billionaires will hardly have to pay any tax at all. Workers will have to pay through the nose. Unemployment benefits will be reduced. Weapons manufacturers will get more lucrative contracts. The wall is a joke, and most people don't get it yet. The 1% need foreign workers to replace Americans, far more than they need any stupid wall. Such decisions are made by Congress, not by Trump.

Obama was dumb. He could have put Merrick Garland on the Supreme Court easily. Congress neglected to approve or reject Garland, and that gave Obama the right to consider him approved and appoint him. But he was too dumb to take advantage of that right.

Republicans are even dumber than Obama, but there are too many of them. They're like ants on honey. By the time Trump gets thrown out of office, there won't be any honey left.

Some of those choose not to work. Two of my close family members are in HR and have been directly responsible for hiring manufacturing workers. One has worked in this state for about 10 years. The other only for the past year. Both consistently complain that they cannot hire enough workers. Both work and hire in more rural parts of the state. Many of the people that show up at job fairs and other places to be hired cannot be employed. They cannot pass drug tests. They lack a high school education or GED. They are not willing to work for the above minimum wages offered. Often those that start working quit because they don't want to follow a schedule and would prefer to sleep in.

Jobs do exist in rural parts of the state. People choose not to work them.

One of the constant complaint of HR at my previous company was how difficult it is to get workers (manufacturing) who will pass drug tests. it was a recurring that the hire will have to be thrown out because of failing drug tests. This was in a small town in southern indiana.

As for H1Bs, except possibly in a few niches, there's no shortage of US STEM workers (science, technology, engineering and math). According to the report linked to below, there are 277,000 STEM vacancies per year in the US, which could be filled by (among other things) 11.4 million STEM degree holders working outside of STEM fields.

When employers complain about a shortage, they mean a shortage at the level of compensation they're offering. As a former engineer, I think what a lot of employers want is a hundred qualified applicants for every job, who need absolutely no training or professional development, who are willing to work on a contract basis (i.e., no benefits) for a fraction of what they might have made if they'd gone into accounting or finance or programming. When there's an actual shortage, you see what happened to petroleum engineering: salaries went over the moon, even for petroleum engineers with nothing but an undergraduate degree and no experience.

The STEM Crisis Is a Myth - IEEE Spectrum

Most of the grad students in engineering fields are foreign origin. Companies in hi-tech fields prefer graduate students rather than undergrads. There is a real shortage of STEM researchers/engineers with specialized knowledge for what companies want to do . If you see EE graduate numbers, it is astonishing. 70% of EE grad students are foreign.

Mind you, these phds also has to work in the same H1B as an overseas IT worker once they graduate.

Forbes Welcome

The ieee link about STEM crisis has some errors also in the analysis. It excludes MS & Phd students from people who will require H1B visas. His analysis without calculating percentage of international STEM holders is spurious.

When employers say 'we can't find anyone qualified" what they mean is they want the govt to allow in millions of immigrants to drive down wages and benefits. That's what created this unemployment problem in the first place. Democrats wanted open borders for new voters, GOP businessmen wanted to horde more money for themselves by paying their workers less. Smart countries like Australia understand you can not have a socialist welfare state and open borders / mass immigration.
