I saw that on the news the other night. It was all I could do to keep from calling the station. This "study" was originally done in Chicago I think.
Our news casters here can be a bit dramatic, every time there is mention of a new storm forming in the Atlantic they bring up the tornado that "ripped" through Jacksonville.
Foreclosures happen because people don't pay their mortgages.
95% of the murders we have had this year have been in the NW part of town this also happens to be an economically depressed area. Poor areas have more foreclosures, put that with the murders and hey "lets do a news story". They could of as easily blamed the credit card companies that sued people who didn't pay their bills.
I have 30 years experience in the credit industry, I worked as a Foreclosure Specialist for a major bank . I wish you could of seen the number of foreclosures because people lied about their income. The should do a story in the unethical mortgage brokers who target folks that are in economically depressed areas. I knew of one broker who told a woman to sign her bosses name on the stated income letter so the loan would fund. These brokers make a lot of money when the loan is funded, they don't care what happens later. There are also quite a few sub-prime mortgage companies that "look the other" way.
Many time while reviewing a file I would be amazed as to why certian mortgages were approved. A lot of times it turned out the brokers were working together with apprasiers it is a "deadly" combination, shady broker says we can make sure you are approved, tells shady apprasiers we need this to come in at xxxx dollars so you end up with a $100k mortgage on a home that is really ony worth 75k. We ended up suing a few, holding them responsible. These types give the good brokers a bad name.
You are going to see more and more foreclosures as people who were greedy when they found out they could buy twice the house they can afford because they get adjustable rate interest only loans. They will find that their payment are going up $200 or more per months as their interest rates go up. This negative equity is being added to their principle so they end up owing much more on the house than it is worth. they can't afford the higher payment so they don't pay and the foreclosure process begins.
This is happening in middle class areas so does that mean the murder rates will go up ?
sorry this is so long but as my DH says
"never ask her about credit, mortgages, volunteering or gardening you will get way more information that you expected" lol

If you linclude some of the smaller cities surrounding the larger city in the other metropolitan areas, you might get a more clear picture. In some cases, it's not even enough to compare county numbers. For example, it could be argued that Tampa/St. Pete is a single metropolitan area, even though they are separate cities and in two different counties.

Now, I haven't done any of the above comparisons, so I'm just guessing, but I think it's somewhat of a "scientific" guess.

The real, often-repeated fact is that one can make statistics appear any way one likes. What's the old phrase, "Figures lie and liars figure?"
that sounds like alot of beating around the bush! facts are facts and the fact is florida is a high crime state! [cut]

Default crime in Jacksonville

I just moved here this year from St. Petersburg. My impression (for what its worth) is Jacksonville has a bad rep. its trying to overcome and somewhat of an identity crisis. Some people have proposed changing the name! I have lived in Miami too and I think the bad thing about Jville is the county/city thing. Miami suffered from the same problem. It was supposed to add efficencies (which maybe it did) but combining the county/city adds to the depersonalization. I am on the west side and we are totally different then downtown or the northside.
The city in my opinion is
1."southern" but "florida"
2."Industrial" but "recreational"
3. Redneck, but 50/50 black and white
4. Spreadout but has local "neighborhood identities"
My impression is that because of this the city is more tolerant then most places in florida and has alot of upside potential. It takes years for people to realize a city has "changed" ie many people think St. Pete is retires when in fact the average age is 35.
In my opinion Jvilles racial mix is its strength and the biggest problem the city has is poverty.

No, it is not a misprint. There is a high unemployment rate in Jax. Probably part of the cause.

The high crime rate is related to the high black population in Jax. I know this is unpleasant for the PC leftists to hear but it is a fact.

Most of the victims of this violent crime are the good hard working blacks who make up the vast majority of the Jax black pop, but there is a considerable minority of gansta thugs that make it miserable for them and other victims.

There are lots of reasons for this. Poverty, the legacy of slavery, the lack of two parent homes, and gansta culture, just to name a few. But regardles of the underlying causes, the fact is that the black areas are the high crime areas. Those are the facts that are deliberately avoided in most discussions of crime stats.

The reason why Jacksonville's crime rate is so high is because there's no money here. If there was more money, everybody wouldn't be into what they into, people aren't living the way they should. The gov't is making a lot of promises on what they gonna do but nothing's showing.

No worries! I am sure we'll all understand eventually that blacks are the criminals in Jax since you seem intent on reminding us in every post about crime. I don't want to start anything, but please give it a rest! Just my opinion...

Most blacks are hard working people who are trying to get buy like most people. However, there is a sizable black Gansta element that are the core element of most violent crimes. An a lot of those crimes are black on white.

While there are exceptions, anyone moving to Jax or any big city needs to know the demographics of crime. Enganging in PC dogmatic denial wont make it go away.

Just the facts Ma'am

Crime Rates

• Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery.

• When blacks commit crimes of violence, they are nearly three times more likely than non-blacks to use a gun, and more than twice as likely to use a knife.

• Hispanics commit violent crimes at roughly three times the white rate, and Asians commit violent crimes at about one quarter the white rate.

• The single best indicator of violent crime levels in an area is the percentage of the population that is black and Hispanic.

Interracial Crime

• Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving blacks and whites, blacks commit 85 percent and whites commit 15 percent.

• Blacks commit more violent crime against whites than against blacks. Forty-five percent of their victims are white, 43 percent are black, and 10 percent are Hispanic. When whites commit violent crime, only three percent of their victims are black.

• Blacks are an estimated 39 times more likely to commit a violent crime against a white than vice versa, and 136 times more likely to commit robbery.

• Blacks are 2.25 times more likely to commit officially-designated hate crimes against whites than vice versa.

Gangs

• Only 10 percent of youth gang members are white.

• Hispanics are 19 times more likely than whites to be members of youth gangs. Blacks are 15 times more likely, and Asians are nine times more likely.

Incarceration

• Between 1980 and 2003 the US incarceration rate more than tripled, from 139 to 482 per 100,000, and the number of prisoners increased from 320,000 to 1.39 million.

• Blacks are seven times more likely to be in prison than whites. Hispanics are three times more likely.

Before you engage in your kneejerk reaction of accusing me of being a racist, please note that these stats show Asians to have one fourth the violent crime rate of whites. Maybe you think that I am a racist Asian?

Check out these race hatred lyrics from rap music Mandarin Girl. Big record companies market and promote this racist rap for the dollar. The high black on white crime stats today are a manifestation of this race hatred.

The Corrupt Liberal Media wont even mention it because it is taboo. Black on white crime violent crime is the elephant in the living room of race relations and most everone is afraid to see the obvious.

Also, check out the cover of this rap album by Ice T called Home Invasion.

The artwork shows black thugs breaking into a white familys home with one beating the father to death while the other is sexually assaulting the mother while the kid groves on the music with his earphones.

Kinda insensitive to the black on white crime situation wouldnt ya think?

You know Hillsborough county (Tampa) has more crime than Duval county! Look at the Tampa forum and everybody wants to move to Tampa.

If you compare Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, Tampa/St Pete areas versus three NE FL counties, Duval, Clay and St John you will see that Hillsborough and Pinellas counties combined have way more crime than Duval, Clay and St John counties combined.
