Are many Jewish families off this week because of Passover? I work in a tourist area where people are milling around from all over the country and the world. There have been a ton of Hasidic Jewish families here this week. It's amusing to see the looks on the faces of people from elsewhere who have never seen Hasidim before.
I was wondering why there seemed to be so many, so I thought maybe the schools are closed this week. Lots of children.

In the US Passover usually coincides with Spring Break for most of the country and Hasidim vacation like everyone else.

I suppose that's correct, but I didn't think there were a lot of Hasidim in other parts of the country, so I assumed most were locals. And when I think of Spring Break, I think of public schools.
I no longer have a school-age child, so I'm not in tune with school vacation times anymore.
Of course Hasidic Jews take vacations. Pretty much everyone on the 911 memorial plaza is on vacation. But last week virtually none out there were Hasidim, and this week hundreds are; hence, my curiosity.

Passover has a beginning and an end that starts with two holiday days and ends with two holiday days, so they take the entire week to go on vacation. So for them 4/3-4/11. There are four days in the middle called Chol Hamoed, which does allow them to work but has some restrictions. So they blow off the entire week.
