I love Qdoba. Probably my favorite burrito place. Every time I go on a trip, I look for one of them as Columbia does not have Qdoba. However, Freebirds is pretty good. I wish Moe's Southwest would open in Missouri. There are a ton of them in the southeast.

For more fast food style, Taco Johns is good.

Sorry, didn't see OP already had whataburger
I've had Whataburger. Nothing special IMO. Tried Potbelly since there is one in Overland Park. Sandwich was okay. Soup was really not very good (baked potato soup - I expected it to be wonderful, and it just wasn't. Panera's is better). Used to LOOOOOVE Taco Tico in Lawrence in the 70s. I didn't realize there were still Taco Ticos open anywhere. I have seen the sign for Runza, but never gave it a second thought or thought about going in. Now I need to try it.

Now see, I LOVE Whataburger. I guess that comes from watching too many Big 12 Basketball games on TV over the years (they are a big sponsor).

I think I'm getting Taco Tico and Taco Grande mixed up in my 1970s Lawrence mind. Wasn't Taco Grande on 9th Street west of Joe's Bakery? I was primarily a Don Chilito's 23rd St. girl myself.

I'm not sure about Taco Grande, but Taco Tico was on Iowa, just south of 23rd street, on the east side of Iowa. There really wasn't much else out there.

Portillo's, from Chicago. Dogs, beef sandwiches, Polish, all the best in authentic Chicago junk food -- plus beer at most locations.

Wait, there used to be a Pita Pit in KC (as opposed to just the one in Lawrence?) I'm surprised that hasn't taken off more.

Lawrence is the only one I remember. I used to eat at one in DC all the time when I lived there and I agree, it should really take off. Some franchises just don't like to expand very much though.
