That's blasphemous. White Castle is the single greatest fast food chain of all time.

Especially at 2:00 am on Sunday morning.

But Krystals are much better overall.

White Castle is a lovely place for a snack...a satisfying meal, not so much. We are temporarily living in the land of White Castle, but when we return to KC, it won't be in the top ten things we miss.

As for Whataburger, I was also long curious about it from all the Big 12 commercials and gave it a try when I was down in Arizona. I was very underwhelmed; it struck me as just your average 50s-style diner, and the fries were awful.

Technically there's already a location in Mission, but I wouldn't mind having a couple more Runzas in KC.
I tried that Whataburger when visiting Phoenix! It did NOT taste at all like Texas and I grew up with Whataburger and have eaten there well over 1000 times in my childhood. It was weird weird weird. So don't judge it by Phoenix!

I think all fast food was better during our childhoods. They probably used actual meat back then

I remember eating at the White Castles on Metcalf when it opened in the '80s. I thought it was disgusting, even as a kid. Never went back.

Same here. That was like the worst burger I've ever eaten in my life. I think I actually threw up after eating it. White Castle is like the epitome of disgusting fast food to me, lol.

There used to be a fast food restaurant called Rax in Johnson County somewhere that I liked as a kid. It had like toasted roast beef sandwiches, sort of like Arby's, but better. Does anyone remember that? What ever happened to it?

Fast food was better in the '60s and '70s. I pity the kids today who never tasted McDonald's French fries from 30+ years ago, when they fried them in a mixture of 70% vegetable oil and 30% beef tallow (lard). They also fired their apple pies in the same lard. Heavenly!

You might scoff that it was unhealthy, but here are some facts to consider: Back then only 10% of the county was fat and only 1% suffered from diabetes. Today 35% of Americans are fat and 10% suffer from diabetes, and the numbers keep growing every year.

The damned health nuts always ruin everything. We'd all be skinny and wouldn't need Lipitor if we ate more rendered animal fats.

I think the big difference was that people knew how to cook 30 years ago and fast food wasn't a "way of life". I ate at McDonalds every now and then. It was considered a "treat", usually while out running errands with my grandfather.

Now you have so many people who don't seem to know what their kitchens are for, and preparing dinner means picking a different drive through on the way home from work

Also, as wages have been driven down and people don't have as much to spend on food, fast food restaurants have to keep costs down so their customers can afford their food. This means cutting corners and producing a poorer quality of food.

So whatever happened to Smacks?
