These threads about other places threatening LV are like calling Disney World every time the carnival comes to town...Disney doesn't care and neither does Vegas!

Las Vegas has a certain buzz about it because of it's rich history that no one else can or will replicate!

I am from Las Vegas and has lived and worked in Qatar and have been to Dubai on multiple occasions, completely different tourists destination.

Las Vegas is entertainment and gambling where Dubai cannot compete with,

Dubai is business hub, commerce and winter destinations for Europeans,

Yes you can buy and drink Alcohol in hotels, lots of Russian prostitutes (although illegal but they look the other way).

The majority of the population is expats, locals are minority and do not bother anybody. Dubai is on the sea with nice beaches and real estate is more expensive.

I still prefer Las Vegas, but above are facts that I have experienced.

The only aspect that Dubai has going for it is this Eliminate the The country's and Dubai is usually the center around the world. Anyone can get there in a cost-effective time interval. But so what? Buy the imitation bags and bags and watches on the internet and protect the airplane trip. Dubai only "plays" as a buying place. And even then, it's not all that.

Dubai could pull some European and maybe a few Asian tourists due to proximety, but Vegas and Macau will still rule. Americans won't go because it's not a quick weekend trip, and the majority of us do not have passports. It may do very well with Europeans as it's a short flight in comparison to Vegas, but unless they loosen the rules on alchohol, there will be a significant number of people who will go somewhere else.

Other then the newness factor, I don't see any real lure for Europeans. They have lots of great beach resorts in southern Europe, which are in the Euro zone, are easier, cheaper, and quicker to get to, and don't have all the Islamic restrictions.

Dubai is never going to be a contender in the Casino game. All the Islamic restrictions will kill any chance they may have to get a foothold in the door. Other parts of Asia are more likely to make a dent in the Las Vegas economy than Dubai. Even then Las Vegas has a charm all of its own, when you tell people you have been to Vegas the initial response is usually WOW where as with Macau unless you are involved in the Casino Industry or Asian the response is usually "..you went where?".

I just came back from Las Vegas as I spent Thanksgiving there for a few days and nights and I already miss it. It's the best. With all due respect, Dubai has nothing on Las Vegas and never will. Las Vegas is unique and the experience you get while you're visiting there cannot be duplicated anywhere. Less than a 2.5 hour drive for me and I'll be back again in January.

-Cheers.

The other issues is the Tribal reservations and other states that have gambling, all of these different venues haven't helped Vegas that's for sure.
I agree.

IMO, if Las Vegas casinos went back to actual coin slots (which I know they never will) and allowed their customers to win just a little bit more the gamblers would return as there would be more buzz. I don't consider Las Vegas a gambling mecca anymore. When I think of Las Vegas shopping, restaurants, drinking and clubbing come to mind.

-Cheers.
