That's where you fail....LV isn't the gambling mecca...it's the ENTERTAINMENT mecca!

You guys probably sound the alarm for Disney Worlds doom when the carnival comes to town too huh?

Casinos don't make any $$$ off of cheap gamblers. The number crunchers don't want to cater the the people who enjoy the Bellagio fountains, TI pirate show or the shape of the pyramid. (None of this stuff generates money.)

Right...those non-gamblers are better taken at the shops restaurants and nightclubs now-a-days. The casinos still have their whales.

Let's not forget that many of the LV players [read casino owners] ALSO have casinos in Dubai and the other destinations as well so they are covering their bases.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Read up on Bill Bennett and what he did with Circus Circus. All those freebee attractions are there for a purpose.

Times have changed. Food and beverage used to be a loss-leader. Gaming is secondary income to these properties at this point. They are making money on food, beverage, and the ridiculous prices at the clubs that dot every strip casino these days.

People are having fun with it, and Vegas is surviving, so it's all good. Free entertainment is going away.

Look for the FSE to start charging a fee (if they haven't already) . The TI shut down "Sirens", the MGM got rid of their free lion exhibit, and they are not the first, nor will they be the last, to stop offering free entertainment. Let's hope the Bellagio fountains stick around.

Disagree completely that Gaming is a secondary income in any Casino, surely you don't actually believe that do you?

I read the local business press. I didn't just make that up. I'm sure it's not true for all properties, of course. The local's places, and some of the older properties are still making most of their money on gaming, but there were some articles on Vegas Inc about how some of the larger strip properties were seeing a larger portion of visitor dollars being spent on food, beverage, and the clubs than on gaming.

Couldn't find the article I was referencing, but here's the wiki entry

If you could find the article I would be interested in reading it NLVgal, if thats the case that night clubs are making more than slots and table gaming combined then Vegas would be turned upside down thats for sure.

Ain't it the truth. When I moved here, there were no player's cards or anything like that. All you had to do is know a cocktail waitress and you could get all the comps you wanted. You didn't even have to gamble. Shows, if you had to pay, were very inexpensive. The casinos were not corporate and didn't care. They were printing money just by getting people in the door.

The casinos are only getting about 40% of their revenue from gambling now... I'm pretty sure 40% would be secondary to 60%.
