We all know what Ipads/Smartphones have done to productivity today, in any workplace setting. Where I work, any chance a worker gets, he/she is on their Smartphone, wasting company time.

Put your imagination to work! Imagine these bored security guards, late at night! A guard is playing Candy Crush, or some internet game, and? Someone scales a wall, and they never saw it!

Again you are missing the big picture...the deterrent alone can be a gated community with a wall. To believe someone is going to pick a house that is harder to get in to than a neighboring community that is not gated is ridiculous. Again look at a crime mapper and see it for yourself, crime is LOWER in a gated community. If you don't want to believe that great but I will take that deterrent over no deterrent any day. Deterrents work that is why many places use them.

Furthermore I always love hearing the stereotypical comments about security "guards". Just like in casinos, HOA's watch the people that do the watching. If you could see in side those "guard shacks" you would see many of them have cameras watching the officers 24/7. The gated community I live in watches those officers closely. Furthermore many security companies, including casinos use a form of a "guard tour system". Officers have electronic devices that they must check in on certain parts of the property so many times a day. I think a lot of people watch movies and think that is how it must be, the truth is very different. Are there bad security officers out there, yes, there are bad people in every profession.

Is there currently anyone living in LV that used to live in a gated community in their hometown? Or wherever they moved from?

To be honest, I always wished I could have afforded a gated community back in NY. Here in the Valley I can afford a gated community and enjoying life behind the gates.

The gated communities in my hometown are mostly for the exclusively rich. When I say GATED COMMUNITY, I really mean it. They have their own grocery store, gym and clinic inside the gate. LV is about the only place a lot of people can afford to live in a gated community.

Somewhat, but not very rich. There's no store, and I don't think they have a gym/pool.

No. But decades ago (think immediate post war) my mother lived there, and some my sisters were born there.

What I was talking about was more out on the island.

Just shared in our Nextdoor community:

Burglar smashes in car windows in Summerlin - www.ktnv.com

Looks like one of the more downscale neighborhoods (automatic gate - no guard).

I once tailed a car through a resident's-only gate at Red Rock Country Club while visiting friends, and was told the guards will usually track down the offender and scold the homeowner. That didn't happen during my visit though.

Interesting how someone takes one incident from a gated community and now attempts to make people believe gate communities are not as safe. I could find a ton of incidents outside my gated neighborhood to prove the opposite. Again believe what you want but the crime statistics are proof gated communities are a deterrent to crime...yes not crime proof but a deterrent.

You may have tailed someone in at a resident's only gate but I would bet they have CCTV video of you doing so.
