I'm sure any number of cheating spouses, in which the spouse was out of town on vacation, got caught via these gated complexes with guards.

"I was out of town this week, did my husband get any female visitors while I was gone? Now be honest!"

"Yup! Thursday nite, 3:15am, some blond bombshell asked me to call your husband! And I don't think she was selling life insurance policies at that hour!"

More like there was a burglary on 12/25 at 4PM, and the police want a list of anyone coming though the gate for the few hours before that.

Not likely that any information, video, or traffic logs would be released to anyone except PD or via a subpoena. Huge liability for the security personnel and company involved.

My eldest and a couple of his friends got gigs doing gate security. If you feel safer having those chuckleheads around, go for it.

Not likely. Who's property is the video? Likely the HOA (assuming we're talking about a gate video from a housing development.) It's taken in a public area, so there's no assumption of privacy.

l went on a client visit yesterday in Siena. 25 minutes to get through the gate. Guard was very cordial, but it was simply due to a line of 15 cars and trucks waiting to get through. We have so many people over at our house on a regular basis, that it would be too inconvenient.

HOA owns the video. If it is guard gated they probably contract out that liability/responsibility. I guarantee they have a policy about releasing the security footage. If they don't, then they will end up being sued when the footage is used to create a plan to rob houses, plan an attack, or something else criminal.

I was just about to bring this up.

One of my old coworkers stationed at Nellis AFB owns a security company. Him and his wife used to contract out with every concert event and gated community they could get their hands on. They only paid their security guys minimum wage and had damn near 100 from Craigslist ads. BUT there were at least a dozen communities in town that would not use their services. The reason was because these gated properties provided their own screening process for security officers. They either wanted solid experience with a proven background or wanted their security personnel to live in or near the property(quick response time and more likely to invested in the community they patrol). He couldn't even get a contract over at Eagle Trace Aprtments. Last time I heard they had a retired cop pulling security, and I'm sure they were not paying him minimum wage.

The point is, a lot of these security companies provided the lowest common denominator worker to provide a service.

I did find one security gate guard that is well above $20 an hour working at a nice senior condo community downtown.(retired military and Karate instructor) I met him at a couple VA functions. The community came together to pay for a well qualified employee out of HOA fees. Money well spent if you ask me. Shouldn't the community have a say so in what type of person is working the gate?

The "experts" have spoken...lol...

"Not likely. Who's property is the video? Likely the HOA (assuming we're talking about a gate video from a housing development.) It's taken in a public area, so there's no assumption of privacy."...ummm no it would be PRIVATE PROPERTY and there is assumption of privacy. Trust me when you have lawyers living in that gated community you better have your ducks in a row. Yes PD for an investigation but still depends on type. If it is a hot investigation and they need the video they will probably get it right away. If it is a cold investigation they will most likely have to get a subpoena.

"My eldest and a couple of his friends got gigs doing gate security. If you feel safer having those chuckleheads around, go for it." Anymore stereotypical comments. Don't assume everyone is a "chucklehead".

Also no matter what you believe this is still a deterrent. Yes some of the security officers may not be the most qualified or best for the job but you can say that with any job. A criminal looks for an easy target and not being noticed. Driving through a gate most likely being caught on CCTV while doing so wouldn't be the best decision.

If you still believe having a gated community does nothing when it comes to crime go to a "crime mapper" site and take a look.
