Lower gas prices than from where I moved.

Lower cooling/heating costs than from where I moved.

Lower water prices than from where I moved.

Higher pay than from where I moved

Lower food costs than from where I moved.

Lower rent than from where I moved.

Lower taxes than from where I moved.

Higher sales tax by 1.1%, I'll give you that.

Don't you realize that everything is relative? Depending on from where a person has relocated, the costs will either be the same, higher, or lower. Is it more expensive than Alabama? I would assume so. Is it less than New England? Yep. Is it less than California? Yep. Is it more than Texas? I think it depends on what part.

or you have to carry around sunscreen because the sun rays are deadly. on the east coast I never needed sun screen. And if you have allergies its a health risk living here between april and june. the pollen is crazy!

I cant take off my skin when its 100 degrees, but if its 20 degrees I can keep warm.
You walk your pets in the early morning or evening hours. My dogs love the heat, though I am aware of how hot the pavement can be on their feet. But I did that before I moved to the desert.

You should wear sunscreen wherever you are. The sun is the sun and the rays can do harm regardless of where you live. I started the sunscreen habit long before I moved to the desert.

I had horrible allergies when I lived in the Midwest, all of which disappeared when I moved to the desert. It all depends on what you are allergic to. The crazy pollen doesn't affect me at all.

When it is 100 I might need a light jacket depending on the wind, if it is overcast, or if I am getting out of the pool. 100 isn't hot to me. It's NICE. Why would you want to take off your skin? Your skin is your greatest friend during hot weather. It is a respiratory organ designed to keep you cool (and it keeps all your blood and organs and stuff inside you, so there's that)

20 degrees I can't warm up no matter HOW many layers I put on. I'll be happy if I don't need to worry about being that cold again!

I choose to live in the desert vs an island not because of any perceived savings but because I like a hot dry climate. The fact that I split my time between The High Desert of So. Calif and the desert of So Nevada is because that is the climate I am comfortable in.

I lived the island life for 2 1/4 years. After a few months I had done everything that there was to be done on the island at least twice. The remaining 24 months were filled with drunken binges and hitting on Japanese tourist girls in an effort to get laid as often as I could while I just did the rest of my time waiting to get off "the rock".

Thankfully the Air Force was kind enough to send me back to Edwards.

I think that could be said for many of the chronic complainers we have here.

Now, I don't have a problem with people making mistakes - happens to all of us. What I would like to see is people taking more responsibility for the choices they made.

We screw up. We fix things. We learn from it. We move on. It's no big deal.

Raiderman, not sure where you are from but you are not the norm.

With exception of Southern California we currently have the highest gas prices in the US.

Cooling expenses during summer is much higher than most of the US for the majority of Las Vegas residents. Maybe because its hot as hell during summer.

Water isn't just expensive but regulated and going to get to the point of highly regulated in time.

If you look at payscale.com or another pay site you will see overall Las Vegas has lower pay for MANY professional jobs.

The FACT is the cost of living in Las Vegas is AVERAGE...its not lower.

You also failed to add in the health issues.

Las Vegas is an island...just this one you are able to drive through the desert to get off of it unlike most where you have to take a plane or boat.

Everyone has their own lifestyle. Can a city provide the lifestyle that you want to pursue? Comes down to the 80/20 rule.

Can the city provide 80% of your lifestyle or more?

If not, just simply move. Don't bother long term planning.

I don't get a person like Scoop hating and living here and also compares it to open-end prison sentence. If you are a great cook, you should have no problem getting a restaurant job in another city. Just move, because anything can happen. Life is short, enjoy and be happy everyday and not wishing you need to get the hell out. He tends to lump people who truly enjoy living here into negative categories.

I agree 100%. I don't regret trying something new. but it wasn't for me. I also wanted my husband to be close to his family & parents who have been here for a long time.. we will most likely move back home, (but a little further north so we can be close to my hometown but not too close) within the next few years, and go back to being visitors. Im fine with visiting. Its a lesson learned.

Looks like you didn't lifestyle analysis before you moved here.

If your lifestyle preference calls for weekend dinner or outings with family/relatives, and you have little or no relatives in Vegas, why did you move here?

Missed it, but I was there for the Moby Dicks and it was one of the best Zeppelin shows I've ever seen. I'll be out of the country for the next couple weeks.
