I'm 60 yrs old, no children, single, no need for a job, retired, receiving a monthly annuity check, have a health plan, 2 small dogs, love betting on sports(Vegas-where it's legal and receive payouts immediately) and have no strings attached. All I want to do is live a simple life without any stress(just retired from teaching 35 yrs of stress) hanging out in the sports books, traveling at least 6 times a year (conveniently with McCarran Airport close by is a plus). I know it's hot there but I'm use to it with the Dallas humidity that we have. Also, with the crime I plan to live in a fairly safe place unlike North or NE Vegas etc. Somebody please let me know why I shouldn't move out there. I feel right now that living in Texas has nothing to offer me.

I can't think of any reason why Las Vegas wouldn't be good for you. Although, the North and NE part concerns me a bit. There are very nice places to the NW, SW and SE. Whereabouts are you considering...

This is the first "should I move" post in months that reads, "I'm moving to Las Vegas for all the right reasons."

I'd get on homeaway right away, rent a real house that allows pets for a few weeks, and drive here from Texas. It's not that bad a drive -- New Mexico and Arizona are spectacular. And it's the right time of year.

I use homeaway all the time, and routinely find places to stay in the $100/night range. This is how I vacation -- having the kitchen allows me to extend my vacations. Three meals a day in restaurants adds up quick, and isn't any good for me. It's not hard to find a place that allows pets, either.

This gives you an opportunity to actually live here for a few weeks and see how it agrees with you.

My only question would be have you ever spent any time in Vegas? I'm assuming yes but you didn't state.

One of the pluses of Vegas that many people who do not live here don't realize is that the most of teh suburbs are largely very quiet. I always say if I dropped a friend from back East in our neighborhood they would guess many, many cities before they ever guessed they were in Vegas. This is a plus for the low stress life you are looking for.

Sounds like Vegas would be a great match for what you are looking for.

ScoopLV- In November I will be flying out to Vegas, staying at Sunset Station and renting a car. Each day I will be driving around to the surrounding neighborhoods to get a feel for them. I eventually will be renting a house for a year until I know Vegas like the back of my hand in order to make long term decisions. Right now I'm just going on line to see what's available price wise while getting my current house ready to put on the market.

The only drawback with Centennial Hills and Lone Mountain is the half hour drive to McCarran. Nice quite, safe places IMHO, only 10-15 min to a few casino's. (Red Rock, SunCoast, Rampart, Santa Fe) Summerlin and Sun City are a little south of Lone Mountain and just as quiet.

vtvette-yes I have been to Vegas several times and considered it my second home. One summer I spent 2 months living in an apartment near UNLV.
