Just got my first prescription of the new year...30 tablets of Xarelto - $492.00. Xarelto is one of the fancy anticoagulants. Been taking it for years. What I missed was that it is a very expensive drug straight retail...and what happened was I ran into the front end deductible on my Medicare plan.

The Xarelto took care of most of my deductible so things will return to normal before I need it again. Next time it will be like $40 or so.

I sure hope someday we come up with a better medical system in our country. To some of us $492 is no problem but to many others that's just not possible. We need a better (and simpler) system.

I drove the 65 miles south to Nogales yesterday. Saw my "Wonder Doctor" at Clinic Similares, charges $3.50 a visit and $3.50 for a prescription. I've had an annoying sore on my ear for 2 weeks, my Primary Dr. can't see me until 1/25, and since I was going down to Nogales, anyway, to be fitted for a Bridge at Laser Dental, I decided to see my "Wonder Doctor" who put an end to the tingling in my left arm 2 years ago. One of the main reasons I moved to Tucson, be closer to Mexico. In Vegas, I used to fly to San Diego, take the train south to Tijuana.

Lots of seniors in the lobby at Laser Dental, as always. And no, no, no, you Don't need a Passport to visit a Border city, despite what you may read!

Also ordered some new prescription sunglasses which will arrive in the mail next week, I've done this before.

And the wonderful pharmacies where you don't need a prescription, and their wonderful advice. "Got anything for sleep?" Yup! Try this, I sleep like a log with this stuff. OK! Mem-eh???? I'll try it! Took one last night with my usual Melatonin, slept 9 hours. "You don't want that generic Salbuterol, CVS bought that company and reduced the strength, go with Braseltec!" I trust you, I'll take 3 of them! 3 for $15! No Combivent? "Here take one puff of this and one puff of that, you'll get the same effect!" Alright, I trust you! Tried it, and it works! "Need some Ampicilin?" I thought they were restricting taking antibiotics across the Border. "A 20 pack for $4, no problema!" He was right!

Wonder Doctor gave me 3 prescriptions. Ear is feeling better, healing!

If the U.S. population was mainly concentrated along the Mexico Border, it would totally change our medical system in this country. The luckiest of all are those living in San Diego (14 miles to the Border on a light rail train) and El Paso, Juarez across the Border. 65 miles for me, but once I get on the freeway (I-19) and with 75MPH I can get there in 45 minutes.

My actual billings are around $200,000 per year. In 2019 they went over $300,000. I have a relatively fancy Medicare plan so I am only out about $500 per month for medical.

Holy smoke! I know medical treatments and pills are expensive that that's nuts!
