Hard to believe that this actually took place in the USA.

There's a discussion thread about this already, FYI //www.city-data.com/forum/las-v...occupants.html It will be interesting to see what develops when we hear more than the allegations in a complaint.

I did it, and survived! Went a whole week without a car in Las Vegas!

I've been taking the bus to work 2 nites a week, and have been really enjoying it, the reading time and meeting up with some of the nicest, most down-to-earth people in Las Vegas, on the bus or at bus stops.

Weekends have been more problematic, the days I drive to work. But my car wouldn't turn over in the garage Sat. nite, (Yes, I could have called AAA) so I thought: Let's extend this car-lessness to one week and see how I do!

The biggest obstacle: grocery hauling. I work with a Nurse at work, my age, from NY, who refuses to buy a car here, walks 20 min. to the store and hauls groceries back to her apt. with 2 bags slung over her shoulders. So she was my inspiration the last 4 days! If she can do it, so can I!

In the morning, my bus stops at DI/Pecos, steps away from the entrance to Albertson's, 3-4 blocks from my house, so every morning with a couple of bags I dragged groceries home. Yes, in all this heat, at 63 years old! Boy, did that ever toughen me up!

And now, I don't even know if I want to get that stupid car repaired! Extend this adventure one more week? I've accumulated a number of phone number off Craigslist for Mobile Mechanics, and may call them in the next few days, maybe, maybe not!

I do have my bicycle with a nice basket, and I can always use that as well!

But oh what a feeling to know that it's possible to kick that unhealthy addiction to having a car! Just don't tell the police if I go completely car-less as they'll get angry with me, as I'm one less target for them driving our streets! Not possible: to get a traffic fine riding the bus!

Always some interesting transactions in the bus or at the bus stops!

I see a whole group waiting, for the bus, all glued to their Ipads/Smartphones:

"Well, we're never gonna start a revolution in this country with these electronic distractions! In Brazil, they raised the bus fares a little and they rioted all over the country and they won! They raised the bus fares here during the recession and not a whimper of protest!"

Great way to break the ice!

I roll my own cigarettes, a young man at the bus stop asked me for a cigarette. He examined it and?

"Ah, you've been in the pen too!"

Monday night I asked a woman why she took the bus:

"Got a $400 traffic fine in North Las Vegas, can't pay it! Running a yellow light! No big deal! I don't mind taking the bus!"

One night a gang member enlightened me about those hankerchiefs the gang members wear, which colors represent what gangs and how they display them. He was with the Crips! Interesting conversation!

I miss those type on interactions. I usually only get those type of random interactions at the DMV, Post office or with parents at a park IF our kids are playing together.

Hate to say it, but I just saw a post on Facebook from Vegas Shepard Rescue that Shadow needs a new home again. The foster mom can't keep him because of one of her other dog's behavior issues, but nothing to do with Shadow. Hope someone in the loop can take him, he seems like a great dog.

The wife and I were just starting to get dressed to go hit the Strip for some gambling and people-watching when we heard the weather starting to get funky again tonight with the wind whipping around and rain beginning to come down. I guess we'll stay in for awhile longer and see if this blows over.
