For any of you sci fi fans out there, I highly recommend Pacific Rim. It's one of the best sci fi films I've seen in a long, long time. It had an estimated budget of $200,000,000 with f/x by ILM, so you know that aspect of the movie is phenomenal. But unlike many big budget sci fi films, the story also is pretty damn good. Here's one of the preview trailers:

I think they kind dropped the ball with the trailers. I have seen the trailers in the theater and it looked like a Transformers movie to me (and I understand it isnt like that at all in reality), which does not interest me in the least. I hope they can make enough to cover their budget, I thought I heard that box office sales were not as expected.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The trailers do sort of look like Transformers vs. Godzilla (or other generic Japanese monster). It actually kept me away from the movie too when it first came out. But then I read some reviews and got a better understanding of what the movie was really about. And then when I actually saw it yesterday, I was completely blown away. Even my wife, who is not much of a sci fi fan, enjoyed the movie so much that she said that she wouldn't mind seeing it again!

Thanks for that information, MadManofBethesda. From what you describe I am enough of a sci-fi fan that I have a decent sense that I'd dig 'Pacific Rim' now. On vacation, over the weekend at a hotel, I sat through a werewolf flick set in London. So, logically 'Pacific Rim' would more than blow that one away. I'll have ta see it.

So, who's ready for the football season? I'm going with the Falcons all the way.

Their odds are probably 500/1. May be still worth putting $5 on them just in case.
