I like Olecapt's ideas for an "experiential" gift. Sometimes people only do something like the Scootcoupe if someone else has taken the trouble to set it up and nudge them.

If they share a hobby or special interest (no fair if it's only one member of the couple!), something that has sentimental or historic value related to that interest is thoughtful, even if it's not really expensive. I knew a couple who met at a rock concert. When they got married, I got a photo that I know was taken at that particular concert, had it framed, and was able to get the band leader to write them a congratulatory message on the photo mat. Since it's hung in a prominent place in their home, I'm pretty sure they liked it.

The point is, it wasn't expensive, but I'm about the only one they know that would have thought of, and could manage to procure, this particular item. I gave a set of this hula girl barware to a couple who got engaged in Hawaii Anchor & Rope Glassware, Anchor & Rope Glasses | Fishs Eddy with a note saying I hoped they would always be as happy as they were the day they got engaged.

If they're Lake Las Vegas types, do they both golf? Do they have a favorite golfer, tournament, or course? Do they have a favorite movie? Have a special car that they're nuts about? Do they have a fancy pool (his and hers color-coordinated terry robes). Come from the same town or go to the same college? (I know a couple who went to rival Big 10 universities and they have flags from each of their colleges -- when their teams play each other, the winner's flag gets flown.)

The point is, think hard about what is unique about them. Then, it's off to eBay or Google with you.

If he's marrying a showgirl thirty years younger than him and they have nothing in common, you're outta luck!

Anything from the Sharper Image. The ultra rich love comforts and the Sharper Image has cool gadgets that make life easier and more comfortable. Oh if you give me an idea on what you want to spend I can help. I worked for a billionaire for the last three years and faced this same problem for all Bdays and Christmas.
