It really is. For one, the irs may not allow the deduction, and two, it's unnecessary. 80 to 85% on li will just take the new standard deduction that has doubled, and get back what they always get back.
Agree can you imagine if the IRS rejects this (and they very well might).

But technically if you were planning on taking the standard deduction for your 2018 taxes regardless of prepaying anything, you will make out better by prepaying as much as you can for your 2017 taxes since you are likely itemizing those.

I'm surprised that 85% of long islanders pay less than 24k in combined state + property taxes.
Nassau county has already posted the 2018 general taxes online at my nassau property. The amount on the website does not include the 1% discount they offer when you pay in full. They will refund the 1% at a later date. What a clusterf...this has become
Let me guess you pay more than 20k in property taxes?

Trump can't stop the school tax deductions for Nassau since our bill where due Nov 10th 2017 and you had the option to pay in full.
TOB yes but you're better off going in person. Open till 7pm now through Friday and till 3pm on Sat. so I read. People said in and out in 30 min.
Plus 30 mins each way. Almost a 2 hour trip for me. I’ll pay the extra $3 or whatever it is to certify t and that will be proof if I want to claim it for 2017. The check wouldn’t be cashed until 2018 anyways. Doesn’t IRS day all you need to do is postmark it by 12/31?
So to pay the general taxes, I can look it up on LandRecord Lookup and pay the general taxes as listed for 2018 taxes for my home or is it a different amount?
