I would get rid of cell phones too and bring back pay phones.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already... The current language of the new tax bill does state that individuals may not claim a deduction in 2017 for prepayments of 2018 income taxes. I'm not sure how or if this would apply to property/school taxes.

Just something to ask your tax professional about before you give your hard earned money over to the leeches at town hall.

School taxes are fine since they're billed for 2017/2018. You had the option to pay the entire bill in November, so if you paid the first half in November it's absolutely fine to pay the second half in December.

You can't prepay your 2018 county taxes though.

So Gov Cuomo signed an emergency order today which negates the law that state & local taxes cannot be prepaid, which would mean we can pay our 2018 taxes. I'd assume with only one week left this may be more grandstanding by the Governor (we knew this was coming weeks ago) to help his future political plans.

The article says the local governments still need to OK it. Is TOB going to ok this after stating they wouldn’t and said you can’t prepay general taxes?

Good point on the school taxes being 2017/18, so you can probably get away with that.

As for the prepayment in general... I don't think it is a matter of an ability to prepay 2018. It just that if you do prepay, the feds will not allow the deduction for 2017. Doesn't matter what Cuomo or the towns do - the feds already blocked the loophole.

Again, consult a tax professional once the law is signed. It may very well only apply to income taxes, although I don't know how many people can prepay 2018 income taxes.
