Either Ireland or Maine. Either one is like living in a different country.
We had a place in Winter Harbor for about 20 years. We vacationed there in the summer and occasionally fall and spring would go. I loved the beauty of the area but as we got older wife wouldn't go and we sold it in early 2000s. I joke what was I thinking but it was just too cold for too long.

It’s cheap with no people.
I don’t mind the cold.

Yeah, but what about making a living? I suspect thousands more on LI would leave, if not for a job or business keeping them here.

BTW, last I heard Ireland is not a state, it's a different country.

I’m uneducated and didn’t get a degree so I can do just about anything for a living.
I can always find a job.
Plus I still collect royalties so I have a small base income that barely buys beer on LI but would go far out of state.

Maine is “like” another country.

I'm paying the entire tax bill before Jan. 1, 2018 rolls around. Just saying.

Does the 10k include both Village and County combined? Village taxes put mine over 10k, but I have only received the first half village tax so far. (Moved into my house this past Sept)

This should only really hurt those that bought more than can afford to begin with and live off of their credit cards. Everyone else should be fine.

SALT = State and Local Taxes. Yes, $10K is everything, including state income tax.

Don't forget though, that the standard deduction has doubled in this new law. So for example, for a married couple it is now 24k. For most people on LI, they are not going to be hit negatively by this change unless they have extremely high property taxes (even for LI) and/or a very generous income (given up to 6 and change percent state income tax - unless you are over a million in annual income).

The majority are most likely going to be at least slightly better off, even here on LI, and the bulk of families wont have to even bother to itemize any longer. Before everyone goes nuts, if you itemized last year (property, state, etc), look at the itemized total line on your return. If it is below 24k you are better off and you have less paper work to do. If it is above, then take into account the child tax credit increases, bracket deductions, AMT fixes, etc. and then make a determination. Some of the media coverage of this is ludicrous.
