Why are some people from LI not going to Manhattan ? There are so many things to see.
I had a college colleague who lives in Hyde Park and she said that in 20 years she went just once to Manhattan !
Is any place in LI less than 1 hour from Manhattan where the taxes are not so high ?
Thank you.
Because some of us (like myself) do not care for crowded cities and huge skyscrapers. Some of us prefer a quiet peaceful walk in the woods, watching the wildlife, going fishing, taking a canoe or kayak down a river.
I've been to Manhattan a couple of times only because I was dragged there. I've been through the Bronx and Staten Island only to get off of Long Island.
This is hysterical and so true! Even some pretty smart people do not believe it. I ask them, have you crossed a bridge or gone through a tunnel to get here? lol Common sense! I show them on a map and they deny it, like I just made it up!! LOL
LOL, I've had that too. They get so mad about it as well. Not sure why. And a lot of them are not aware that Brooklyn is Kings County as well.
When I get within 50 feet of the "Welcome to Queens" sign, I begin foaming at the mouth and convulsing. No joke.
I don't head west unless I absolutely have to, and even then, it's a living hell. And don't think for even a split second that my hillbilly ass will be behind the wheel. The one or two occassions every other year that I have to go into the city for whatever, I never drive, aint happening, and my friends and family know not to even ask. I'm just not an urban person. Give me forests, swamps and dirt roads please.

The strange thing is, I was born and raised in Nassau, but even my parents can't understand why I am the way I am. They've told me I've always been like this. Always had a fascination with rural living since as far back as they can remember.
I even dressed redneck, not a conscious effort either. I just always felt comfortable in blue jeans, t-shirt, and a flannel, which was common in the 70's and then again in the early 90's. I've gone in and out style without any effort. Heh heh.
