East Arts District is in 90813 and many like it a lot...as well as Craftsman Village.

Cal-Bowl is actually in the Lakewood city limits near the intersection of Carson and Paramount, right by Kohl's and Wal-Mart.

I would not live at First and Falcon (parking), and I would avoid 6th and Orange (crime.) 90803 is the best bet IMHO and I have lived here 42 years. Belmont Shore, Bluff Park, Belmont Heights are your best bet. Under $1000 is possible, although not probable. You do not really need air conditioning as it does not get that hot here. Have you looked in the Grunion Gazette? Best rental list. Avoid the Press Telegram - not worth it for listings. Good Luck.

I don't know if it was Cal-Bowl, but the name doesn't sound familiar. When I stayed at one of the big hotels on Ocean Blvd., the place was within walking distance to the best of my recollection.

It was like 2000% nicer than the Palos Verdes Bowl - I can't believe that dump is still in business. If anyone knows for certain what the name of the bowling/family activity center is that is located in LB, off Ocean Blvd., please let me know as I have been meaning to take my son and don't know exactly where it is.

The only other bowling alley I know in LB is Java Lanes, but that's at PCH - west of Termino.

Java Lanes is gone now - torn down in the past 1-2 years in order to build condo's or houses...cannot remember. No recollection of a bowling alley on Ocean.

Get an apartment with A/C if you can find it. People say you don't need A/C, but with global warming and whatnut, you never know how hot it can get. I remember a person who knows told me this a bunch of years ago when i was searching for an apartment in Carlsbad/Del mar, etc she said, "Get AC, don't listen to them if they tell you that you don't need it"

Unless they are going to discount your rent, why not have it? If you don't use it, thats fine....but, don't pay full rental price unless you have it.

Its fine to not have it if thats your thing, just make sure that 'no a/c' is reflected in a lower rental price.

Make sure your place faces the east. You will get then morning sun, but if your rooms face the west, it will get hot. But hey ........ it's only going to happen 2 or 3 weeks in the summer Enjoy the heat for the few days ... could be worse. go to Tuscon in the summer or check out the other threads in the midwest or upper southeast ...............

I have seen a house I am interested in buying in N. Long Beach 90805. Is that area safe? Driving around it seemed fine.

if thats all you can afford, then ya. but if you can afford more, no. try to stay closer to the beach. generally areas closer to the beach like zip 90803 and 90801 are better areas
